What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Boundary Surveyor - NPS ESP Program position at Center for Workforce Inclusion?
The Center for Workforce Inclusion has an open position in the National Park Service’s (NPS) Experienced Services Program (ESP). The ESP program is designed to connect experienced workers, age 55 or older, with fulfilling and challenging opportunities at national parks and program offices that protect, conserve, and preserve our nation’s valuable natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources.
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail (ANST) is recruiting for a Lead Boundary Surveyor who will conduct boundary survey work on a prioritized list of lands prepared by NPS staff. Work will primarily involve boundary retracement, reestablishing missing or lost monuments, resolving conflicting survey evidence, line posting, and as required, preparing and filing plats or reports to document results and findings. There may be limited areas where new survey monuments will need to be established. Preference will be given to applicants living within the Pennsylvania and New Jersey areas.
Role and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Field and office work involving recovery and review of evidence to determine boundary locations.
- Act in a lead role to the APPA Boundary Surveyor Technician position
- Coordinate with the Appalachian Trail Park Office (APPA) and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) to gather information for field survey work
- Coordinate with APPA and ATC to report findings of field survey work
- Prepare and file official survey plats as required
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The successful candidate must be age 55 or older; must be a licensed or certified land surveyor in good standing; have substantial experience in all aspects of conducting boundary surveys in rugged, mountainous terrain; be physically fit and able to navigate steep terrain with thick vegetation; be proficient with Trimble R12i GNSS system, and be proficient in software applications required to prepare reports, plats and process survey data (e.g., MS Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS). Applicants possessing basic survey equipment are preferred but not required.
Hours & Compensation:
Temporary position working an average of 24 hours per week @ $50.00 per hour.
