Position Summary:

The Summer Camp Assistant Manager reports to the Program Manager, and helps to create a safe and successful environment for COCA Summer Arts Camps. The Summer Camp Assistant Manager will be responsible for ensuring that camps and classrooms are setup for success, with a focus on classroom setup and supply management. The position is seasonal. Work would begin May 6th with CPR Training and run through August. Camp dates are May 27-August 15, 2025. This position works 8:30-5:00pm Monday through Friday.

  • Help with site, room and faculty preparation before camps begin for the summer.
  • Participate in and support the Program Manager in running COCA camp orientations for parents and camp faculty in orientations in May. This means be onsite to help setup room for orientation, and be prepared to present on assigned topics to specific groups.
  • Provide a safe and fun camp environment every day by working with the Program Manager on running camp collecting and disseminating paperwork and communication between parents, Teaching Artists and COCA staff.
  • Maintain order among campers and ensure adherence to safety rules and operating procedures.
  • Support the work of Teaching Artists by providing 1:1 assistance to students, as needed, due to illness or behavior concerns.
  • Order, organize, maintain and distribute inventory of camp supplies onsite, which includes but is not limited to:
    • Take inventory and order supplies to maintain supply room and camp cabinets.
    • Monitor supply purchases to adhere to budget.
    • Collect and maintain weekly supply requests.
    • Manage the creation of weekly camp supply crates.
    • Lead teaching assistants in the return of camp supplies to the storage room and camp cabinets.
    • Work with Culinary Teaching Artists and Operations to ensure weekly groceries are ordered and stocked in the kitchen.
    • Each Friday after flip, check in to make sure all supplies are correct, and classrooms are successful. Ensure all supplies still needed is reported to the Program Manager.
  • Supervise first lunch with Teaching Assistants each day.
    • Serve as the key point person in ensuring students find seats, safely eating lunch and returning to their PM Camps.
    • Oversee the Teaching Assistants who are assigned to lunch. Provide guidance and direction and ensure Teaching Assistants are in their assigned place.
    • Oversee the distribution of lunch time medications to campers. Following Medicals forms provided by families and health care providers.
    • Lead the distribution of campers after lunch to their PM Camps.
  • Work with Operations, Teaching Artists and Teaching Assistants to organize, manage and clean classrooms at the end of each camp day.

 

  • Supervise the Teaching Assistants charged with running After Care to ensure that student supervision after camps is enjoyable and safe.
    • Help TA’s manage any after care behavior challenges and see that children are appropriately supervised.
    • Observe Teaching Assistants to ensure that structure is maintained.
    • Help Teaching assistants determine when/if to reduce staffing in response to student pick-ups.
    • This will require you to be present in After Care each camp day.
  • Support the Program Manager with organizing and managing weekly culminations.
  • Organize the cleanup and reorganization on last day of each camp session. Communicate this information to Operations and teaching assistants.
    • Develop a weekly clean up “Flip” schedule, assign teaching artists, assistants and create checklists.
    • Supervise staff to tear down each room and reset for the following camp session.
  • Work with Operations and the Education Department to organize and supervise the end of summer camp clean up after camps conclude for the summer.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/ or Qualifications:

  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience in a management position preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Experience working with school-aged children required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams and Google Sheets
  • Strong interest in and experience with the arts.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational skills including: stooping, kneeling, walking, lifting, grasping, pulling, standing, and talking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs
  • Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force and/or constant force to move objects.
  • This position works on-site at COCA.
