Position Summary:
Perform general accounting functions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable. Some tasks require highly specialized knowledge of medical billing, including Medicare and Medicaid procedures. While individuals may focus on one aspect of the accounting functions, it is anticipated that all individuals will be cross trained to cover for absences and to adjust for workflow issues.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:
- Submits the invoices to the appropriate resource, including insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, or the patient for self-pay.
- For self-pay patients, refers to the slide scale adjustments as determined by the receptionist or front office staff.
- Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts.
- Review all remittance advices for denials, correcting any invoice that needs to be resubmitted, and contacting patients to clarify or correct insurance information.
- Review and research unpaid claims at least monthly to monitor outstanding AR and resolve issues.
- Performs respective accounting procedures utilizing generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares a variety of reports to assist management in reviewing accounting procedures and cash flow. This may involve, but is not limited to: Paperwork documentation, source document review, accrual preparation, or analysis recap.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 10 years prior related work experience in a customer service or medical office environment.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required. Problem resolution is important.
