Position: DC Systems Operations Technician - Night

Location: Centeris Data Center – Puyallup, WA

Shift Coverage: Night Shift, 3 nights on shift with 4 nights off followed by 4 nights on shift with 3 nights off. Each workday is 12 hours.

Centeris Data Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled DC Systems Operations Technician to join our team. Located in a suburban community just a few miles from Tacoma and Seattle, Centeris offers a large-scale, fully backed-up data center with multiple tenants and carriers. Position Objectives:

  • Monitor and adjust cabinet systems cooling, power, security, and fire suppression systems.
  • Interact with the facilities team to monitor and adjust infrastructure systems, including heating and cooling of air and water, local electrical power systems, generators, UPS systems, main electrical distribution systems, BMS controls, and PME power monitoring systems.
  • Perform system analysis and environmental reviews of cabinets.
  • Respond to customer requests for “smart hands” services, such as hardware replacements and server power supply replacements.
  • Provide continuous improvement suggestions for process, system operations, and cost reduction.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and management to ensure effective risk mitigation, safe operations, shift coordination, and team building.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Perform journey-level maintenance duties to operate and maintain a first-class data center.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a safe, self-motivated manner.
  • Possess hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, fire detection, suppression systems, and other building trades.
  • Maintain working knowledge of data center systems such as network connectivity, building management, power monitoring, and CMMS.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in data center facilities systems and equipment.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new controls equipment and systems.
  • Monitor and log alarm systems and perform skilled preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with procedural, safety, environmental, and risk mitigation processes.
  • Issue “stop work” orders to contractors and vendors as necessary.
  • Provide training and technical expertise to other Systems Operations Technicians (SOTs).
  • Respond to unforeseen emergencies at the site as required.
  • Available for overtime when required.
  • Must wear company-provided uniform.
  • Clean areas as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Strong practical skills and knowledge of site facilities infrastructure.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Technical understanding of facility infrastructure systems and the ability to communicate this understanding to peers, management, customers, and vendors.
  • Understanding the reason for and implementation of risk mitigation processes.
  • Troubleshooting skills for equipment issues or failures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent facility management software and CMMS.
  • Knowledge of networking, routing, switching protocols, and networking equipment (e.g., Cisco, Moxa, Allen Bradley).
  • Understanding of data storage management, disaster recovery software (e.g., Veeam), and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, TCP/IP, BacNet).
  • Ability to resolve network and hardware problems timely and courteously.
  • Process and procedure development skills.
  • Successful completion of a data center facilities operations training course.
  • Apprenticeship or military equivalent training in building/ship systems infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs of equipment and use OSHA standard safety equipment.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours and shift rotations.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US and a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in Controls/Automation in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • 3 years of training experience (on the job or classroom).
  • Journeyman status in a building trade.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
