What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipping and Receiving Clerk position at Centerline Services?
PRIMARY –
- Performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods of the establishment in which employed and receiving incoming shipments.
- In performing day-to-day, routine tasks, follows established guidelines.
- In handling unusual non-routine problems, this worker receives specific guidance from supervisor or other officials.
- May direct and coordinate the activities of other workers engaged in handling goods to be shipped or being received.
- Shipping duties typically involve the following: verifying that orders are accurately filled by comparing items and quantities of goods gathered for shipment against documents; ensuring that shipments are properly packaged, identified with shipping information, and loaded into transporting vehicles, and preparing and keeping records of goods shipped, e.g., manifests, bills of lading.
- Receiving duties typically involve the following: verifying the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records, checking for damaged goods, insuring that goods are appropriately identified for routing to departments within the establishment, and preparing and keeping records of goods received.
- Fills shipping or transfer orders for finished goods from stored merchandise in accordance with specifications on sales slips, customers' orders, or other instructions.
- In addition to filling orders and indicating items filled or omitted, keep records of outgoing orders, requisition additional stock or report short supplies to supervisor, and perform other related duties.
- Is responsible for managing the inventory of tools, equipment, and parts used by maintenance and shop personnel.
- Duties also include Receiving and Storing: Accepting incoming stock, tools, tool kits, and equipment items; verifying their condition; and placing them in designated storage locations.
- Issuing and Tracking: Distributing tools and parts to shop employees upon request, maintaining records of issued items, and ensuring their timely return.
- Inventory Management: Conducting regular inventories to account for all tools and parts, identifying discrepancies, and supporting supply personnel in inventory processes.
- Safety and Compliance: Following established safety practices and procedures, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and adhering to relevant regulations. This role requires knowledge of the types of tools and parts in stock, the ability to identify and issue specific items requested by users, and the capability to set up and maintain storage locations.
SECONDARY –
· Employee may be required to turn in excess material or other material/goods identified by government to Defense Logistics Supply (DLA) as requested
· Employee shall record and maintain quantity and type of materials distributed and on hand when requested
· Employee must be able to comply with a bending/lifting requirement of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 51 pounds with assistance
· Must be able to follow OSHA regulations and application of job specific safety/PPE requirements, to include hazardous materials
· Must apply and be able to follow AF Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21), security, and health principles, practices and procedures and apply internal management procedures to assignments in all areas
· Employee must be able to pass training and/or certification and maintain ability to operate fork-lifts, golf carts, and/or shop motor vehicles in accordance with government standards as applicable to performance of job duties
· Employee must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None
REQUIRED / EXPECTED JOB SKILLS:
- Proficient in English language with the ability to comprehend and read work instructions and assignments related to the performance of job duties
- Must be able to operate general and special purpose transportation equipment related to job duties
- Must have knowledge of standard environmental methods, practices and techniques used in an industrial or commercial environment. Preference will be granted if experience is related to a federal government complex and/or facility
PREFERRED, NOT REQUIRED:
- Ability to perform minimal data entry into general computer/web-based systems if requested
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent Required
- Technical School Certification/Degree highly preferred in one of the following: mechanical, environmental, scientific, electrical, electronic, logistics or other related field
- 2 years hands on experience in warehouse and/or material receiving, transporting and/or storage preferably at or supporting a government facility
- Federal Civil Service or Military experience relative to job requirements is preferred but not required
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· The work environment characteristics are representative of those performing essential functions of the job in an industrial production and repair environment
· Must be able to work in variable temperatures outdoors with or without cover and in buildings with or without heating/air conditioning
· Work may require moderate to strenuous physical labor and effort
· Work may require climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, and standing for prolonged periods of time on concrete, metal, and/or irregular surfaces
· In performance of assigned job duties, there exists the possibility of electrical shock, burns from electrical energy, exposure to chemicals, exposure to industrial and/or hazardous waste and/or materials and possible minor cuts, scrapes, and bruising
· Standard work week applies but may be required to work overtime or weekends as needed
