Job Summary
The Director, Electrification Programs is a leadership role in CenterPoint’s Utility Strategy group. Utility Strategy sits at the intersection of operations, regulatory, and several support functions. The group drives organic growth strategy across CenterPoint’s electric and gas service territories and is a critical support function to CenterPoint’s executive leadership team. A successful candidate will be responsible for understanding the energy and utility landscape, as well as commercial transportation electrification, and be able to identify opportunities for CenterPoint Energy to develop programs that drive adoption and increase stakeholder satisfaction. Candidates should have a keen interest in emerging technologies, trends, and opportunities in the utility landscape, a strong analytical background, a collaborative leadership style, an understanding of the regulatory construct, and an ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. These abilities should allow them to interface with various customers and other stakeholders to advance electrification objectives. A candidate should feel comfortable with ambiguous problems and have the ability to apply a hypothesis-driven, logical approach to such problems. A candidate should also be comfortable living CenterPoint Energy’s purposes and values. Prior industry experience and/or advisory/consulting experience in the utility/energy sector strongly preferred.
Essential Functions
- Lead the development of strategy and customer-facing documents: presentations, summaries, and deliverables for the Company’s executive leadership
- Develop and provide supporting analysis (business analytics, market fundamentals, etc.) for presentations to upper management and external stakeholders
- Develop financial models for evaluating strategic opportunities and customer solutions
- Review financial models for accuracy and integrity (appropriate inputs, necessary assumptions, inclusion of alternatives/options, and achievability of savings)
- Provide management with market intelligence on emerging EV trends, technologies, peer actions, and regulatory constructs and outcomes
- Conduct ongoing research on industry actions, as related to electrification
- Provide support on decisions to be made by Company leadership; develop recommendations and associated business cases
- Partner with regulatory team to provide analysis and support on impacts resulting from proposed strategic projects and customer-focused solutions
- Attend industry meetings and conferences as applicable to remain current with industry fundamentals, practices and trends
- Support execution of strategic projects and partner with appropriate business units, in particular with electric operations
- Monitor, track, and report on strategic projects
- Participate in recruiting activities to maintain a high-quality utility strategy organization
Education Description
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, and an MBA is appreciated, but not required.
Experience
- Requires a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a related field. Candidates should have strong analytical backgrounds with robust communication skills. Candidates should also have an understanding of the electrification and/or utility sector. Prior industry experience and / or advisory/consulting experience in the utility/energy sector strongly preferred.
