Job Purpose:
The Managers primary responsibility is to supervise the clinical professional and non-licensed staff to ensure efficient, effective program operations. Professional position responsible for the organizing, directing and ongoing daily operations of the Children's program to include supervising the staff providing resources, mentorship and direction while preserving the quality and integrity of the program.
Essential Job Functions:
1) Leads the development of: facility design; equipment acquisition; referral development; staff and client recruitment; and licensing/certification/accreditation.
2) Supervises nursing staff to ensure clinical skills are carried out with accuracy and competency to meet the standards of care established by Pediatric Skilled Nursing
3) Provides direction in financial planning and budget preparation and is accountable for the control of these resources once approved and meets or exceeds all budget projections.
4) Assures programs meet or exceeds all regulatory and accreditation requirements initially and on an ongoing basis.
5) Actively engages in teaching new skills and reinforcing learned skills including but not limited to wellness techniques, safety, diet and nutrition new procedures and equipment, medications, and emergency procedures.
6) Trains, mentors and orients new nursing staff
7) Participates as member of the strategic planning leadership team to determine department goals and collaborate about progress toward the plan
8) Supports charge nurse
9) Writes physician orders and is responsible for updating all patient records to include HER, Kardex and plan of treatment
10) Updates plan of treatment every 62 days
11) Completes medication reconciliation with all record including pharmacy when medications are delivered to PSN
12) Participates in organizational reporting in a timely manner
13) Develops and directs implementation of appropriate program evaluation and quality standards; recommends modification where appropriate.
14) Establishes and maintains positive business relationships with all stakeholders including relevant State of Wisconsin departments, other government agencies, and referral sources such as Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, professional groups and families.
15) Supervises, directs and evaluates the performance of staff:
- Sets clear goals and objectives.
- Monitors progress toward goals and objectives.
- Provides feedback and coaching.
- Formally reviews and recognizes performance.
16) Works collaboratively with Therapies, Occupational Health and other MCFI departments and staff to ensure comprehensive, coordinated services.
17) Represents Children's Programs and MCFI in the community.
18) Leads the development of short and long range plans for the Children's Programs.
19) Practices and promotes safety in the work place.
20) Works in partnership with the quality department to develop appropriate measures in support of program outcomes.
21) Participates in department quality planning activities, (e.g. continuous improvement, performance metrics, etc.,)
22) Leads the development of the Clinical staff, scheduling in-services, overseeing attendance at community educational offerings and maintaining staff records and tracking of education to meet all requirements.
23) Orients new staff to the program, directing, supervision, evaluating and training of new staff and volunteers.
24) Coordinates the activities of students in order to maximize their clinical experience
25) Identifies educational needs of the staff based upon the medical needs of the children and organizes training to meet the needs.
Required Technical Skills, Experience, Education, and Credentials:
1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School of Nursing
2. Current WI Nursing License, without limitations that are incompatible with duties, responsibilities, supervision or practice setting
3. Master's degree in a health related or business field preferred
4. Experience in management as an administrator in a health or social service environment
5. Must either be CPR certified at the start of employment or complete CPR certification course within 90 days of the start of employment. Must maintain active CPR certification through periodic renewal as dictated by the certification.
6. Skill and ability to lead and provide vision to others in the pursuit of the agency's mission.
7. Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate effort of staff in accomplishing agency goals.
8. Ability to gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of agency operations.
9. Knowledge of good financial planning, budgeting methods and operational control mechanisms.
10. Knowledge of community-based health and social service systems and principles and resources as they relate to the needs of children with significant health care needs.
11. Knowledge of federal, state, county and private funding and programmatic guidelines.
12. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to individuals and audiences.
13. Skill and ability to mentor, guide, and provide appropriate support and leadership to staff, children and families to reach positive outcomes.
14. Ability to resolve conflict in an effective and efficient professional manner.
15. A valid Wisconsin driver's license, and automobile insurance with minimum limits of
$50,000/$100,000 bodily injury and $10,000 property damage
16. Access to a personal vehicle
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee may experience or must do to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
1. Must frequently be able to move, transport, position, push/pull and/ or lift objects or equipment weighting at least 50 pounds a distance of 450 feet.
2. This position is responsible for the supervision and safety of clients in a multi discipline
care setting. As such, this position must be able to observe client activities, detect areas of danger, and distinguish when clients who are non-communicative are in need of personal cares, and converse clearly with clients and staff on a frequent basis.
3. This position must frequently and effectively communicate complex ideas and instructions to other staff.
4. Must be able to safely push a person in a wheelchair on a level floor or on a wheelchair ramp in various weather conditions. Must be able to transfer a person from a wheelchair to the toilet, chair, or van seat/car with use of a gait belt and/or manual or power Hoyer lift.
5. PSN operates from 6am to 6pm 5 days per week and 7 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday and requires flexibility to cover the needs of the business as it evolves and changes.
