The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.

 

The Graduate Assistant of Aquatics & Safety will perform a variety of duties to support the Marshall Recreation Center Aquatics Programs and the management of the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium in the Cam Henderson Center. Responsibilities include but are not limited to hiring, training, scheduling, and assessment of part time aquatic staff. This position will also be involved in event management for both the Henderson Pool and the Recreation Center. 

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, and other administrative duties in the management of part-time staff for aquatics
  • Assist with creation and implementation of program policies and procedures as they relate to aquatics and risk management
  • Responsible for coverage of lifeguard or aquatic supervisor shifts in emergency situations
  • Assist with risk management training and audits
  • Instruct aquatic and safety certification courses as required
  • Assist with oversight of First Aid supply inventory
  • Assist with preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets for Rec Center Aquatic program areas and Henderson Pool
  • Purchase equipment and items as needed with supervisors’ approval
  • Monitor and assist with payroll processing for staff within area of responsibility
  • Represent department at outreach opportunities both on and off campus
  • Instruct three PEL programs each seven-week session of Fall and Spring semesters

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Attend all required trainings and meetings
  • Maintain the highest level of proficiency in facility policies, emergency response, and EAP
  • Assist with the All Staff and Supervisor Training in the fall and spring
  • Serve on the Departmental Risk Management or Staff Recruitment Committees
  • Additional responsibilities as required
  • Evening/Weekend work responsibility as required 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Seeking Master’s degree in recreation, sport management or related field
  • Preferred 3.0 GPA or higher 
  • At least 1-2 years of progressive experience in aquatics management
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Fiscal integrity
  • Human resource management abilities
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities 
  • Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm
  • Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions 
  • Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles

 Training and Certifications Required: 

  • Valid Lifeguard, CPR/AED Professional Rescuer, and First Aid certification prior to first day of work
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification (or ability/willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment)

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with staff scheduling software. SubItUp preferred
  • Knowledge of Club Automation Software

Human Relations: 

Internal contacts include staff at all levels. External contacts include external customers and vendors. Contact involves troubleshooting, informing, exchanging information, negotiating, making recommendations, and giving information or instructions.

  • Sitting at desk or table for at least 50% of the work day
  • Standing or walking for at least 50% of the work day
  • Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement (while operating computer equipment)
  • Occasional bending, stooping
  • Eye-hand coordination (keyboard typing)
  • Hearing and talking
