The CENTERS team is innovative, entrepreneurial, trail-blazing, and ambitious for both CENTERS and our clients. Today, CENTERS provides management services for 14 clients.
The Graduate Assistant of Competitive Sports will perform a variety of duties to support the Marshall Recreation Center Intramural Sports Program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to training, scheduling, evaluating, and hiring of intramural officials as well as programming over 40 events each year including leagues and tournaments. This position does not have summer responsibilities but will have the opportunity to work in other areas of the facility if desired. This individual must have a high entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm for sports. Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Create and develops administrative and program policies and procedures within the areas of Intramurals
- Create promotional events for the Intramural Sports Program each semester to recruit participants
- Establish and maintain working relationships with university departments and student organizations such as Residence Life & Greek Affairs to
- increase participation and interest in their respective leagues
- Instruct three PEL (Physical Activity) courses per each 7-week session
- Attend New Student Orientations to promote the Intramural Sports Program
- Assist with the creation of programs and events during Week of Welcome for the Intramural Sports Program to recruit and introduce intramurals to freshman students
- Hire, schedule, train, and evaluate intramural supervisors, officials, and scorekeepers
- Implement a comprehensive and innovative evaluating system for officials and leagues
- Assist with planning the operating budget for Intramurals
- Assist with maintenance and repair of program supplies
- Assist with creation of the Intramural Sports schedule each semester
- Work as an Intramural Supervisor/Official as required
- Other duties as required
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Contribute written/video work performance evaluations of all officials for each sport
- Prepare regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports and participation reports
- Participate in weekly meetings with the Assistant Director of Programs
- Hold regular office hours
Other Responsibilities:
- Attend all required meetings, trainings, and retreats
- Maintain the highest level of proficiency in facility policies, emergency response, and EAP
- Knowledgeable about Campus Recreation policies and procedures
- Assist with the All-Staff Training in the fall and spring
- Instruct CPR/AED/First Aid certification courses throughout the semester
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
- Evening/weekend work is required
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

- Seeking Master’s degree in recreation, sport management or related field
- Preferred 3.0 GPA or higher
- At least 1-2 years of progressive experience in recreation management
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures
- Fiscal integrity
- Human resource management abilities
- Leadership and supervisory abilities
- Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues
- Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm
- Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions
- Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports

Training and Certifications Required:
- Valid CPR/AED Professional Rescuer & First Aid prior to first day of work; these certifications are offered by Campus Recreation for free
- Valid CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor certification; these certifications are offered by Campus Recreation for free
Competencies:
