What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Unit Coordinator I-Full Time Days LGH Operating Room position at Centra Medical Group?
Under the supervision of a licensed, professional nurse, the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) acts as the communications liaison between all the various departments in the health care facility, including nurses, physicians, other professional staff, ancillary staff, patients, and visitors. The HUC performs a variety of secretarial/clerical duties. These individuals are known for their knowledge of procedures and demonstrate organizational skills that assist in the coordination of patient care .

Licenses & Certifications Minimum: Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.

- Communicates with staff, families and other departments utilizing effective communication skills.
- Effectively coordinates communications involving incoming calls, pages and nurse call light system.
- Schedules and coordinates patient care activities to ensure continuity of care.
- Serves as a liaison between patients, family members and the nurse and/or provider.
- Able to appropriately process and respond to flow of events occurring within the unit.
- Coordinate admissions, transfers and discharges of patients and maintain medical records with accuracy and timeliness.
- May handle medication that is delivered by the Pharmacy either directly or via the pneumatic tube system and transport said medication to an appropriate storage area or to another employee who is qualified to administer the medication.
- Maintains necessary office supplies and keeps work area stocked with necessary supplies.
- Creates and maintains an environment that protects patients from harm.
- Consistently practices Centra safety behaviors.
- Applies unit service excellence best practices in approaching patients, visitors, physicians and colleagues.
- Communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and/or other departments in a consistent and timely manner.
