Buyer/Expediter
REPORTS TO: Director of Purchasing
DEPARTMENT: Purchasing
POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary responsibility is to serve as a buyer/expediter for the Purchasing Department. Expedite purchase orders and handle small dollar (up to $10,000) purchase of approved materials, services and equipment. Assist with purchase order entry and quotation entry during peak periods. Perform all phases of purchasing and bidding in accordance with District policy, local, state and federal standards with the highest professional and ethical standards
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
- Employment terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education’s policies, procedures, and agreements.
- Hourly Wage determined by the Board of Education
- 12 month at will employment is based on annual evaluation in accordance with this job description.
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration preferred
- Two years experience in purchasing and materials management preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work under the administrative direction of the Purchasing Manager or the Purchasing Director in the fulfillment of job goals and responsibilities.
- Review requisitions for deviations of standards and/or questionable purchases.
- Process requisitions by purchase order or District credit card (P-card).
- Assist Purchasing Department with preparing a quotation or bid package in accordance with District policies and regulations.
- Issue package to prospective bidders, receives bids, prepare analysis, and submit for approval to purchase.
- Obtain competitive prices by phone, fax or e-mail and maintain effective documentation of said quotations on a wide variety of supplies and equipment.
- Process expediting requests of purchase orders, handle changes from the requestor or the Accounting Department. Process return of items and replacements to requestor.
- Perform related work for departmental operation as designated by the Purchasing Director or the Purchasing Manager.

- Ability to collect and graph data, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Technical Skills
- Knowledge of a variety of technology platforms.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 30 pounds. Additionally, the employee must be physically able to implement all Board of Education Policies and District procedures.
Environmental Requirements
- The position remains sedentary for the majority of the day. Noise levels associated with this position align with that of a typical office environment.
- There may be some instances where travel to different school sites or locations for training or district events is required.
