What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mortgage Loan Officer position at Central Bank?
Position Purpose
Actively markets and networks with prospective customers and referral contacts to originate secondary market residential mortgage loans and services to meet their needs. Develops residential mortgage referrals by leveraging existing relationships with realtors, builders, financial planners, attorneys, etc. while at the same time developing and nurturing other potential referral sources. Responsible for establishing, while at the same time exceeding customer expectations on all levels of a real estate transaction. Helping create and foster a culture that lies within the overall vision of the bank while at the same time having a fun time doing it.
Duties, Scope, Responsibliities & Authority
Calls upon potential customers and referral sources and develops relationships to determine borrower's needs in regards to mortgage loans. Interviews loans applicants to ascertain concerns, their needs, desires, abilities and earnings to determine whether a loan may be an acceptable risk. Evaluates the financial condition of the client, the value of the proposed collateral, and recommends the terms and conditions of the loan. Negotiates and makes decisions on loans within lending limits and based upon bank lending policy guidelines. Refers loans over loan authority to SVP Lending or Loan Committee. Ensures profitability balanced with acceptable risks. Ensures documentation is completed and requests additional data as needed. Supports the HELOC program by discussing product with potential customers. Recognizes unfavorable trends and recommends action where needed. Confers with management on difficult or sensitive issues. Coordinates loan activities and makes cross sales referrals to appropriate departments for products and services. Establishes business development plan, sales and referrals goals. Maintains personal accountability for sales and service standards and for meeting established goals. Develops relationships with realtors, builders, developers, and other professionals such as attorneys and accountants. Actively discusses bank products and services with prospective customers and referrals, exploring needs and making recommendations that are in the best interest of the customer and that achieve their financial objectives. Provides professionalism, efficiency and Legendary Service when resolving difficult customer issues. Collaborates with others within the bank and the community to support the bank and its brand. Actively involved in community education, such as first time homebuyer classes and or realtor events and functions. Ensure thorough understanding of compliance and regulatory issues relating to loan policy and procedures, evidenced by appropriate application of all regulations in day to day operations. Responsible for compliance with all banking regulations which are applicable to the job, including Bank Secrecy Act and information security initiatives.

Provides direction on lending activities and documentation to the loan processor and other administrative employees as needed.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Prior banking experience or mortgage lending origination experience preferred. Excellent verbal, listening and other communication skills. Strong customer relations skills and ability to work with customers and employees in a cooperative manner. Ability and desire to work as part of a team and with people of diverse backgrounds. Must possess initiative and tenacity in fulfilling calling responsibilities. Must be goal oriented and highly motivated. Ability to recognize closing opportunities and retain and grow customer relationships. Must have knowledge of current bank lending procedures and policies (state and federal), lending regulations, appraisals, title work, deeds of trust, lien laws, collection/bankruptcy regulations and other loan documentation. Ability to solve problems and ability to understand and present multiple loan structures to a borrower, with strong attention to detail. Ability to analyze financial statements and loan risk. Excellent computer skills are needed. Ability to work with minimal supervision is needed. Must possess good judgement skills with the ability to make decisions within guidelines, solve problems, handle confidential information and manage multiple tasks. Attends and completes all required training. Must have a valid driver's license as work may require travel.
