What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Supervisor position at Central Coast Aquarium?
Position Summary: The Central Coast Aquarium Operations Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operations of the facility, including memberships, admissions, rental, and fundraising efforts. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for cultivating and training positive volunteers and docents. This position requires attention to detail, excellent communication and organization skills, as well as the ability to multitask.
Specific Responsibilities: Serves with the Executive Director to ensure smooth operation of the facility. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the facility and is responsible for training, evaluating, and directly supervising volunteers. Required to assist with fundraising efforts including event planning, and grant writing. Works with the Executive Director to develop, execute, and evaluate all aquarium exhibits, tours and aquarium public programs. Will work with docents to ensure a positive impactful educational experience for visitors. Responsible for the aquarium gift shop to ensure it is well maintained and stocked with appropriate inventory – assist with regularly ordering gift shop merchandise that is reflective of the Central Coast Aquarium’s mission and values. Overseas family memberships and works with aquarium volunteers to set and reach membership goals. Works with the Executive Director and staff to achieve a profitable facility rental plan, birthday party program and community partner relationships. Builds into all programs an evaluation model with measurable goals and objectives and analyzes evaluation data to ensure program success. Stays abreast of market trends to ensure our offerings continue to be successful and relevant. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Minimum of two years supervisory experience. Must have experience working for or superving a multidimensional business, nonprofit organization or retail operation/sales. Preferred Marine Science background or related field. Must work weekends, holidays and occasional evenings. Experience with coordinating and planning events. Ability to interact with the general public with a positive and friendly attitude. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent writing skills. Flexible, well organized and able to work on several projects simultaneously. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
