The Y is seeking an Archery Specialist to lead and facilitate a safe, educational, and enjoyable archery program for campers in a seasonal day camp setting. This role will focus on teaching campers of all skill levels the fundamentals of archery, ensuring a positive experience while promoting safety, focus, and discipline.
As an Archery Specialist, you will create an engaging and inclusive environment where campers can develop new skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of archery in a supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and demonstrate archery skills and techniques to campers, ensuring safe and proper handling of archery equipment.
- Develop and implement a structured archery program, including lessons, activities, and challenges suited to various skill levels.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed, including equipment maintenance and supervision during archery sessions.
- Foster a fun and supportive atmosphere where campers feel encouraged to learn and grow.
- Maintain inventory and care of archery equipment, ensuring it is safe and functional.
- Monitor and maintain a safe, organized, and respectful environment for campers.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to support the overall camp program and assist with other camp activities as needed.
- Previous experience in archery instruction or coaching, particularly with youth.
- Certification in archery safety or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of camp.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage and instruct youth.
- Ability to create a positive, encouraging environment that fosters skill development and sportsmanship.
- Must be safety-conscious and able to handle archery equipment properly.
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR/AED, and O2 administration (or willingness to obtain before the start of camp).
- Physical ability to participate in active outdoor programs and demonstrate archery techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for up to 8 hours per day.
- Frequent lifting of equipment, including bows and arrows, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Standing, walking, and engaging in archery activities for extended periods.
