General Custodian Position Description:

This position cleans and maintains assigned buildings. This position sweeps and mops floors, empties trash and performs a variety of other maintenance services to ensure a safe and sanitary educational environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent. School district experience desired. 2. Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License is required 3. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification as required by the District 4. Ability to lift 40-50 pounds on a daily basis as needed 5. Demonstrated ability to: o learn proper use and application of a variety of chemicals and products, make accurate measurements for mixing solutions o discern appropriate work methods o perform minor repairs o work independently and/or work with limited supervision o lift moderately heavy objects o oversee general building security o follow schedules, implement instructions; learn and use cleaning materials and specialized cleaning equipment safely o effectively communicate with students, staff and parents o maintain effective working relationships with District staff o establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting o maintain confidentiality 6. Knowledge of general cleaning procedures

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Serve as an active, productive and collegial team member, who values, builds and maintains supportive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members 2. Sweep and mop floors; apply various chemical solutions and finish to a variety of surfaces; vacuum and shampoo carpets; strip and wax floors per schedule; operate a variety of power equipment 3. Straighten furniture in classrooms and offices; dust surfaces; wash walls, desks and windows 4. Pick up waste papers; empty trash containers. Clean and sanitize restrooms; refill dispensers. 5. Perform minor maintenance; replace lamps; tighten loose switch plates, loose doors and check hinges; may repair locks and check roof drains; remove clogs from drains and toilets and sinks; paint doors or rooms 6. Periodically check building for damage and graffiti; take action to repair damage such as cleaning or painting or inform supervisor that maintenance is needed; use cleaners; disinfectants and finish according to directions 7. Maintain safe conditions in building to eliminate hazards and prevent accidents 8. Maintain current knowledge of school fire fighting equipment; maintain equipment in proper operating condition; maintain current knowledge of how to report a fire and obtain emergency help 9. Ensure that doors and windows are locked and the building is secured before and after hours; allow only authorized people to enter the building after school hours 10. Respond to staff requests or minor emergencies; take action promptly 11. Maintain appearance of building grounds; collect trash and sweep walkways 12. Provide direction and training for substitutes and temporary job training assistants. Maintain good working relationship with Community School's people who are using building; respond to requests; inform supervisor of problems arise. Uphold and assist in enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policy 14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities 15. Requires the use of multiple communication and technology systems, which may include electronic mail, computers, document cameras, smart boards and web-based resources 16. Perform other similar, related duties as assigned

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.10 - $32.25 per hour
