Position Summary

The Business Process Analyst will apply communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT solutions investments. The Business Process Analyst is responsible for identifying the areas of improvement in our current business processes, developing, and implementing new strategies and technologies including automation, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful adoption of the new procedures. As this position progresses through the levels, direct responsibilities and independent work are increased. The Business Process Analyst will work with stakeholders across all business units to define business processes and specify solutions which enable the business to become more efficient and may conduct process audits to ensure the effectiveness of new processes.

Required Qualifications

Business Process Analyst I:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in project management, information technology, business administration, or computer science, or equivalent education and experience.

One year of experience in business/systems analysis.

Demonstrated understanding of analytical techniques.

Demonstrated understanding of Agile and SDLC project methodologies.

Demonstrated understanding of modeling notations and flowcharting.

Demonstrated ability to identify specific business opportunities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills including technical writing skills.

Strong active listening skills.

Strong Critical Thinking Skills And Analytical Abilities.

Resourcefulness and ability to devise creative solutions to problems.

Ability to negotiate effectively and assist with facilitating meetings.

Ability to meet expectations as a reliable member of a team.

Ability to escalate issues appropriately.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without accommodation

Business Process Analyst II

Business Process Analyst I skills plus:

Five years of experience in business/systems analysis

Demonstrated Experience With Facilitating Requirements Gathering Sessions.

Demonstrated experience testing and mapping various business processes and protocols.

Demonstrated experience with Agile and SDLC project methodologies.

Demonstrated experience with modeling notations and flowcharting.

Demonstrated knowledge in generating process documentation.

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects at one time.

Demonstrated ability to write clear and well-structured business requirements/documents.

Proven Experience In Eliciting Requirements And Testing.

Proven experience in analyzing data to draw business-relevant conclusions and in data visualization techniques and tools.

Ability to effectively communicate and influence key stakeholders to support proposed strategies, process improvements and operational decisions.

Ability to present information for decision making purposes with little to no direction.

Ability to negotiate effectively and facilitate meetings.

Strong time management skills and increased acumen for planning.

Business Process Analyst III

Business Process Analyst II skills plus:

10 years of experience in business/systems analysis

Proficiency in using business process modeling and analysis tools such as BPMN, UML, Visio, or other.

Ability to quickly learn the objectives, structures, operations, and policies of a new business area.

Strong problem resolution, negotiation, and influencing skills.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, study and interpret complex data.

Adaptability and a willingness to learn new skills.

Business Process Analyst Sr

Business Process Analyst III skills plus:

Fifteen years of experience in business/systems analysis.

Demonstrated ability to break-down complex business scenarios or problems into process and data models.

Proven ability to ask tough questions and negotiate professionally and creatively to ensure the success of the organization and projects.

Proven ability to easily balance the organization’s strategic vision with the daily operations of projects.

Comfort with presenting at the senior executive level.

Proven mentoring ability.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree, preferably in project management, information technology, business administration, or computer science

Knowledge of the BABOK® Guide and agile extension to BABOK® Guide.

Knowledge of the PMBOK® Guide and Standards.

Knowledge of the Agile Software Development frameworks and principles.

Experience in change management methodologies.

Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and standards.

Knowledge of various enterprise level platforms widely used in higher education.

Ability to resolve requirements conflicts through effective stakeholder engagement.

Ability to identify and document project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.

Ability to apply end-to-end thinking to business and system problems to ensure ‘right first time’ documentation and solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Process Analyst I:

Consult with stakeholders to identify, define, and document business needs and objectives, including current as-is workflows.

Identify and document issues and risks, as well as the root causes to those issues and risks, and identify areas for improvement.

Use various techniques to understand business requirements, such as interviews, workshops, surveys, site visits, and storyboards.

Develop and document business process models with standard notation and tools to represent the process structure, logic, roles, inputs, outputs, and performance indicators.

Translate conceptual user requirements into clear functional requirements.

Work with business and delivery teams to prioritize requirements.

Manage requirements scoping throughout the delivery process.

Identify and assist in prioritizing opportunities to streamline business processes.

Create process documentation and guidelines, including standard operating procedures and workflow diagrams.

Business Process Analyst I Skills Plus

Perform data discovery, analysis and modeling.

Define configuration specifications and business analysis requirements including reporting, alerting, integrations, and technical.

Develop and implement optimized processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Present information for decision making purposes.

Collaborate with stakeholders to design and execute process improvement initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

Understand technical options, limitations, costs, and risks. Communicate tradeoffs to business partners and work with them to shape requirements accordingly.

Help resolve competing priorities between stakeholder groups by facilitating stakeholder discussions and escalate issues where appropriate.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process changes, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.

Business Process Analyst II Skills Plus

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented process changes, measuring key performance indicators, and making necessary adjustments for continuous improvement.

Present information at the senior executive level.

Provide mentoring to team members.

Assist with stakeholder engagement and organizational change management as changes are implemented.

Business Process Analyst III Skills Plus

Help strategy and business leaders understand, apply, monetize, and operationalize existing, new, and emerging technologies to transform and optimize business and operating models.

Work holistically within the University to align business and IT.

Engage key business stakeholders to identify business and technology innovation opportunities that enable and drive business strategy.

Construct deliverables that demonstrate how to move business processes toward realizing the University strategic goals and desired business outcomes.
