What are the responsibilities and job description for the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR / FACULTY PERSONNEL SERVICES position at Central Michigan University?
The Executive Director of Faculty Personnel Services is the senior administrator assigned the day-to-day responsibility for academic employment at Central Michigan University. This position manages, provides leadership for, and otherwise directs the operations of the Office of Faculty Personnel Services (FPS). Those operations include but are not limited to, services and programs for CMU tenure/tenure-track faculty, fixed-term faculty, adjunct faculty, and graduate assistants, providing support for academic division Senior Officers and their support staff as needed, administering labor contracts, and taking a lead role in negotiating faculty and graduate assistant contracts. The Executive Director also conducts investigations and resolves grievances and serves as a representative on the Senior Leadership Team and the Emergency Management Steering Committee.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree preferably in the liberal arts, law, business/management, or related field.
Six, or more, years of relevant professional experience, specifically in human resources, faculty relations or other directly associated field of employee relations management.
Four, or more, years of administrative supervisory experience, preferably in higher education.
Experience bargaining and/or administering labor contracts.
Strong organizational, management, leadership and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work with a diverse clientele.
Demonstrated competence in utilizing personal computers and computerized information systems.
Ability and willingness to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships throughout campus.
Knowledge of labor and employee relations laws.
Demonstrated excellence at both verbal and written communication.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Legal training, JD or doctorate degree desirable.
Prior direct experience in higher education, to include administering collective bargaining contracts, and familiarity with academic policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a spokesperson during collective bargaining contract negotiations.
Demonstrated successful relationships with faculty (tenured, tenure- eligible, and non-tenure-eligible) and graduate assistants within a unionized environment.
Familiarity with faculty reappointment, tenure, promotion processes and other faculty personnel matters.
Familiarity with, and understanding of, laws related to the employment of non-immigrants;
Familiarity with enterprise computer systems (SAP preferably).
Prior direct experience in higher education, to include administering collective bargaining contracts, and familiarity with academic policies and procedures.

Reviews, where appropriate, the work of other staff in the office.
Performs other similar and related duties, as assigned.
