GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Work involves sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, woodwork and fixtures; and policing buildings to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc. Employee is also responsible for requisitioning necessary cleaning supplies. Reports to the Principal.
Carpenter I
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
Terms of Employment: Permanent, 12 Month Position
Nature of Work
Candidate will work under general supervision, perform semi-skilled carpentry tasks in an effort to ensure a safe environment for students and staff. Examples of work include building and repairing frame work, repairing cabinetry, repairing floor tile, assembling or repairing furniture, installation of televisions, and replacing glass in existing openings. This position will report to the maintenance supervisor and Director of Maintenance.
Qualifications and Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalents, and
- 5 years job experience related to nature of work, and or
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Must maintain a safe driving record
- General knowledge of common building materials
- Knowledge of safety precautions and hazards associated with job
Duties and Responsibilities
- Install or repair drop and regular ceilings
- Install or repair floor covering
- Repair drywall
- Building shelving and cabinets
- Assembling furniture
- Prepare work orders
- Design projects, estimate materials needs, and purchase materials
- Assist other trades when needed
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
- Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
- Requires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spaces
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment
- Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
Special Requirements (if applicable)
- Ability to use and care for tools and equipment
- Ability to follow direction
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with building staff and associates
