Purpose of Job:

To provide student supports that promote a positive teaching and learning environment and to improve student health and the capacity to learn through the support of families, communities, and schools.
|
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.
|
General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- To plan, organize, and coordinate the following elements in conformance with local guidelines and state requirements/guidelines in the areas of Health Education, Physical Education/Activity, Health Services, School Counseling, Psychological/Social Services, Nutrition Services, Healthy School Environment, Staff Wellness, and Student, Family, and Community Involvement
- Coordinate the components of Coordinated School Health Program with other district resources (Family Resource Center, Family Engagement, Behavior Support, etc.) and community organizations to meet the needs of students and families while providing a safe, supportive learning environment
- Develop and maintain a system/process for program evaluation which includes a means for program improvements
- Serve as point of contact for Physical Education teachers regarding district goals/initiatives
- Infuse evidence-based practices to promote social and emotional learning (SEL) through a multi-tiered system of supports
- Establish partnerships with community organizations and agencies concerned with the health and wellness of students and staff to include DCS, Youth Services, Youth Villages, Child Advocacy Center, etc.
- Support a safe, non-threatening, emotionally rich learning environment in which all can find success at school and extend that approach to families in establishing an emotionally safe environment at home
- Actively solicit family involvement and engage community resources, expertise, and services to respond effectively to the health-related needs of students and family
- Coordinate with Family Resource Center to provide assistance to families in need
- Maintain district tracking program of chronic absentees and steps in the compliance process to include contacts by school and district personnel
- Coordinate and monitor programs for truancy and chronic absenteeism prevention and increased student attendance to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines to include Attendance Board meetings, consultation, home visitation, crisis intervention, and tracking no-shows throughout the year as appropriate
- Work with the Wilson County Juvenile Court to enforce the state of Tennessee compulsory attendance law
- Coordinate recognition of students with perfect attendance in each school as well as the media
- Seek alternative funding sources for program initiatives and supports
- Ensure compliance with Tennessee Department of Education standards and guidelines for the CSH grant including budgetary and reporting responsibilities
- Participate in periodic staff development provided by the Tennessee Department of Education for CSH and Safe and Supportive Schools
- Ensure that the use of the district’s resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible

Other Duties and Responsibilities
|
- Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information
- Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students
- Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public
- May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
- Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
|
- Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in counseling/psychology/mental health services, education, nursing, health services administration, physical education, social services, or nutrition
- Non-judgmental, highly organized, cooperative, and self-motivated
- Ability to assess health and safety needs of students, families, and school employees
- Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and technology skills to successfully fulfill the responsibilities of the job
- Willingness to pursue certification as a Behavior Analyst or comparable endorsement
- Ability to deal with diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills and dedicated to development of the whole child
- Reliable transportation for travel between schools and within the community
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Support Services or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

Abilities/Physical Requirements
|
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active light work in an office setting.
|
However, this job may require lifting and/or carrying of equipment that exceed 20 pounds occasionally.
