POSITION TITLE: Data Specialist
FLSA: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Information, Planning and Assessment
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employment with benefits as specified in the Classified Agreement.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: This position will facilitate the integration, technical support and professional development of the district’s document management system. This position will also assist with the district’s data management, including but not limited to data imports, and data manipulation/aggregation. Also responsible for technical support for various systems such as Yellow Folder. This position will include compiling, interpreting, and reporting data for use by schools and other staff as well as meeting the reporting requirements of the Missouri Student Information System (MOSIS).
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Disseminate guidance to various district staff and to provide technical support as needed for the district’s document management system.
- Assume responsibility for assigned components of the MOSIS and its timelines, data elements and accountability implications. This includes uploading data in a specified file format and resolving reporting errors, as well as comparing statistical data to established norms to determine data accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Present data in a manner that communicates its meaning to a variety of audiences, including staff, patrons, auditors, etc.
- Collect, compile, analyze, summarize and disseminate data to review, as well as analyze data and information from multiple sources.
- Basic to Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills that include formatting, cell manipulation, basic formulas (SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT) or advanced formulas (VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH), filtering data, data validation, conditional formatting, and pivot tables. This often requires the ability to merge data sets using Microsoft Excel and/or Access.
- Work as a member of the Data and Technology team in the management and planning of the data systems and reports which support staff needs. This requires the ability to identify and communicate data quality issues, as well as stay knowledgeable about the data elements in the district’s Student Information System.
- Create queries to retrieve data from the Student Information System and other databases in order to prepare/perform analyses.
- Analyze data with basic statistical methods, interpret results, and provide written/graphical summaries of the data.
- Cleanse, audit, and maintain data to be used in reporting and analysis.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Student Data Systems Manager.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Present and communicate in a professional manner.
- Work additional hours or overtime as directed.
