JOB TITLE: Director of Finance
REPORTS TO: CEO
DEPT. / SCHOOL: Administration / Bob Hope School / Central Office
WAGE / HOUR STATUS: Exempt/Full Time

 

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist and manage the operation of all financial affairs of the district including accounting, purchasing, and data processing. Serve as the director of finance and assist to the Chief of Finance, Chief of Executive Officer and Board of Directors. Responsible for assisting and maintaining the district’s general ledger; reviewing, reconciling, and reporting general ledger accounts for most funds of the district. Provide accounting support to all campuses and departments on a daily basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

               Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance

               Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

  • Advanced technical knowledge of school finance, budgeting, accounting systems, and economics
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of financial applications and accounting
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, perform data analysis, and do word processing
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to students, parents, administration, teachers, and the community in a professional manner;
  • Knowledge of and experience in accounting software (Ascender preferred); Excel, and Database proficiency.

 

Experience:

Minimum five years of experience in public accounting with two years in school finance; Experience working with federal programs; Specific finance or business experience in a charter school as its own state agency; Experience in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and accounting systems; Experience in a nonprofit organization; Other experience to include budgeting and other accounting /office management experience preferred;  Strong, effective oral and written communication skills and ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, perform and interpret data.

 

Training Requirements:

Required training is in accordance with the Texas Charter Schools Association and other training requirements

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Equipment Used:

Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals, 10-key calculator, and overhead projector.

 

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to attend to detail; work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner; maintain accurate and auditable records; maintains emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruption; reading; ability to perform basic mathematics.

  1. Prolonged sitting, stooping/bending, pulling/pushing, reaching, and twisting.
  2. Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding, use of 10-key calculator, and use of mouse.
  3. Prolonged use of laptop/computer, iPad.
  4. Frequent phone interactions.
  5. Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  6. May work prolonged or irregular hours.
  7. Occasional districtwide travel.

ABOUT BOB HOPE SCHOOL
Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education.  Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus.  Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Baytown, Texas.  The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
