ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

In collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, helps develop the strategic vision for curriculum development in alignment with personalized learning, division-wide. Promotes, advocates for, and directs content and special-focus academic programs that are comprehensive, integrated, research-based, and data-driven;

Coordinates teaching and learning experiences, including alignment of curriculum documents, comprehensive assessments and alignment of resources for each content office. Works with curriculum coordinators to ensure successful completion of all phases of the curriculum review and revision processes that align with personalized learning including: the curriculum framework, formative and summative assessments and resources; creation and posting of parent documents and website alignment, and report card updates.

Ensures academically rigorous curricula that comply with standards and facilitate functional proficiency in each content area, and that academic content area instruction is supported through clearly articulated units tied to specific SOLs and consistent with SOQs, SOAs and other standards.

Identifies and recommends ways and means for overcoming the shortfalls between curriculum developed and content delivered by teachers.

Provides or facilitates professional learning for subordinates. Ensures provision of professional learning, typically by the pertinent curriculum content or academic program, to teachers in the content/program areas.

Ensures confidentiality of data in programs/operations, including legally-protected personal information, sensitive decision-making and programmatic data, and other sensitive information.

Identifies, recommends, and implements initiatives that improve productivity and coordination, as well as quality and effectiveness, of department work efforts. Leads on issues and resolves problems requiring comprehensive professional knowledge of curriculum development.

Continuously improves knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning. Keeps abreast of developments and innovations in education and curriculum, especially SOLs, SOQs, SOAs and other standards mandated by Virginia/SCPS; of instructional methods and programs; of the strategic initiatives, goals and key educational and student support objectives/issues of SCPS; of the diversity of the communities served by SCPS; and of culturally responsive pedagogy/diversity-inclusion, all as pertinent to effectiveness in directing the Office of Instruction.

Communicates and interacts effectively with internal and external business contacts. Speaks in public and engages with stakeholders to broaden the understanding of, promote and advocate for, the teaching , learning, and innovation domain of SCPS. Briefs the School Board, advisory committees, principals, community groups, PTAs, parents-guardians, and other groups on teaching and learning matters. Collaborates with VDOE and neighboring school districts. Communicates approved curricula. Works with and advises principals, teachers and other curriculum implementers; as requested, observes delivery of content by teachers in the classroom and offers insights for enhancement of teaching and learning.

Mentors new and aspiring administrators in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and use of research and data to lead continuous improvement initiatives;

Works with other division leaders in facilitating and managing change;

Performs related work, as assigned or on own initiative.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certified by the State Department of Education with endorsement in Administration/Supervision.

Hold a valid Virginia driver's license.

Five years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level(s).

School site administration experience at the appropriate level(s).

Demonstrated leadership skills and organizational skills.

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

Ability to relate well to all members of the educational community.

Physical and emotional stamina.
-
Curriculum and instructional training desirable.
Administrative pay scale-Grade 1, 260 days per year
