REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Federal Programs and Student Support Services
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Student Support Services Director oversees the full spectrum of services available for exceptional needs students so each student may receive optimum educational benefit in the Starkville School District.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises Special Education, Section 504 and Gifted Programs to provide appropriate special services for each exceptional student.
- Completes reports for the Mississippi Department of Education required for operating Special Education and Gifted Programs.
- Writes the annual Special Education project for federal funds and Extended School Year Grant for state funds.
- Supervises the IDEIA budget and ensures that invoices, receipts and documentation is on file to support purchases.
- Ensures that exceptional education data in MSIS is accurate and timely for complete funding of teacher units and for the Federal December 1 Special Education Student Count and the state gifted student count.
- Disseminates exceptional education information concerning governmental statutes, state and federal regulations, and district policies to school employees, parents and interested parties.
- Conducts training for Special Education and Gifted teachers and other school personnel.
- Coordinates 504 programs.
- Coordinates “Child Find” activities in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
- Supervises psychometrists, behavior specialists and other staff required to operate the Office of Student Support Services.
- Participates in parent-teacher conferences regarding students with learning, behavioral and emotional challenges.
- Protects the confidentiality of special education and gifted data.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the superintendent.
MINLMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid Mississippi license with endorsement in Administration, 486, 487, 488, or 489/endorsement in special education.
- Teaching experience in special education.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in administration or special education.

environments; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Physical: Moderate physical ability to perform moderate lifting; walking, sitting or
standing for prolonged periods of time; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; reacting
quickly to emergency situations.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read
computer screens and printed documents.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the
work environment is moderate.
