Purpose of Job:
|
To oversee and provide direction for the development and implementation of strategic support services to enhance the improvement of the school system.
|
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.
|
General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Assist the Director of Schools in overseeing the operation of the school district
- Serve as Interim Director in absence of Director of Schools
- Work with directors, coordinators, principals, and building staffs to build vision, set priorities, and develop long and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation of the school district
- Assist principals, assistant principals, and district level administrators in the development of leadership skills
- Assist principals/administrators with school level issues as needed
- Oversee and provide administrative support and direction for these support services:
Family Resource Center (FRC)

- Act as system level complaint manager and employee grievance officer and reach efficient solutions to complaints/grievances
- Oversee budget preparation and assist in budget administration
- Articulate the vision and mission for the district and provide appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them
- Ensure district compliance in areas of responsibility with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
- Continually evaluate areas of supervision to identify opportunities for greater effectiveness and efficiencies
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance and provide direction/guidance as needed
- Communicate job vacancies, conduct interviews and make recommendations for hire to Director of Schools
- Serve as a liaison to other district departments to foster relationships, leverage resources, and assist with coordinating joint projects as needed
- Serve as an advisor regarding the hiring, discipline, transfer, and termination of staff
- Ensure that the use of the district’s resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible
- Provide strategic leadership and input to efforts and operations related to local, state, and federal initiatives
- Keep abreast of education-related legal and legislative requirements and proposed changes and their potential impact on district operations
- Recommend changes in policies and procedures for the purpose of ensuring compliance with applicable Federal and State laws and Department of Education regulations and Board policies
- Investigate and respond to inquiries, concerns, complaints, and requests from parents, staff, and community as needed
- Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare reports for the Board as requested by the Director of Schools
- Seek available sources for grant or alternative funding to support programs and projects
- Participate in community and public relations activities, including presentations and public speaking engagements as assigned and/or as appropriate
- Abide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics
- Participate in professional activities at the local, state and national levels
- Serve as a member of the Director’s Leadership Team with high levels of accountability and decision-making abilities

- Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information
- Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students
- Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public
- May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
- Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

- Master’s Degree
- Five years administrative leadership experience
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective personnel management, including leadership development, supervision, evaluation, and training
- Creative problem solver with the ability to perform independent, thoughtful analysis around important issues, with the ability to effectively organize and prioritize work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and community members
- Valid professional license with appropriate Administrator/Supervisor endorsement
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
