What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Special Services Coordinator position at Central Office?
Reports to: Director of Special Services
General Summary: To assist in the coordination of comprehensive special education services and successful transitions for students with disabilities to post high school opportunities in daily living/educational/vocational areas.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to secondary special education teachers and related service providers in developing systems that will help students and families in the education and transition process.
- Provide in-service training to parents, family members, students, and teachers related to successful transitions.
- Build and strengthen relationships between schools and local providers of adult services.
- Act as a resource to teachers, students, parents and administrators of students with disabilities to help identify desired transition outcomes.
- Acts as a lead trainer for the district in the state supported, computerized IEP system, and the alternate assessment.
- Serves as case conference committee chairperson when appropriate.
- Functions as a member of the district’s special education leadership team.
- Remain current in the research and best practices related to students with disabilities as well as the state and federal regulations.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.
- Coordinates district CPI training team and assists in conducting CPI training and certification of building level teams and personnel.
- Collaborates with secondary self-contained program teachers, and administrator, to develop appropriate educational plans for students.
- Coordinate with local private schools to develop, and provide, planning and programming for students with disabilities.
Qualifications
- Education – Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
- Certification or Licensure – Valid Special Education Indiana Teaching License.
- Experience – Working with students with disabilities.
- Knowledge – Current federal and state regulations along with understanding of special education services and post-secondary education options for student with disabilities.
