POSITION TITLE: Instruction Support Specialist 

DEPARTMENT: Teaching, Leading, & Learning

WORKDAYS: 210 Days

REPORTS TO:  Deputy Superintendent or Designee

JOB SUMMARY: 

  • The Instruction Support Specialist works to provide ongoing support to school-based instructional programs by using evidence-based practices through planning, modeling, observing, and providing feedback. 
  • This role also enhances collaboration among coaches, teachers, and leaders. 
  • The Instruction Support Specialist develops and coordinates professional development activities to implement instruction strategies in alignment with the Rome City School System’s Strategic Plan. 
  • The specialist ensures that instruction is engaging, academically rigorous, culturally responsive, and aligned with curriculum standards and frameworks.
  • The Instruction Support Specialist focuses on the implementation of instructional priorities and adopted curricula, using student performance data and classroom observations to guide their work. 
  • Through department/grade-level team meetings, professional development hours, classroom-based coaching, and curriculum implementation, the specialist works with teachers and coaches to support the improvement of their practice. 
  • The Instructional Support Specialist must have a strong background and proven results in Science and ESOL. This position will be designed to provide immediate support within those content areas. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
  • Provides professional leadership in the development, coordination, and implementation of the Rome City Schools curriculum in cooperation with the Deputy Superintendent, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Early Learning Specialist, and ESOL Specialist.
  • Possesses and demonstrates a working knowledge, applying these theoretical principles to professionals to build capacity for high-quality curriculum instruction.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Superintendent, Curriculum Director, Early Learning Specialist, & ESOL Specialist with the development and presentation of the instruction, best practices, and data discussions.
  • Assist in addressing the professional development needs of schools and teachers based on assessment data, classroom observations, conferences, needs assessments, and administrator recommendations.
  • Support schools in developing and monitoring assessment data and school improvement plans.
  • Assists in the selection, production, and use of instructional materials
  • Work with staff to build their capacity in the knowledge of the most current research and strong pedagogical practices in instruction delivery.
  • Monitors the implementation of the district's instructional program in classrooms.
  • Provides teachers with instructional support in five areas: the theory underlying instruction, demonstration of evidence-based strategies, observation of teachers practicing evidence-based strategies, feedback and reflection on instruction, and support for collaboration.
  • Develops and leads ongoing professional learning sessions for staff meetings.
  • Develop and present an instructional focus to staff during specified learning meetings.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of professional development to site administrators and teachers; assist with the sessions for Professional Learning Communities
  • Communicates regularly with the building principal to maintain the district's and school's vision for student achievement.
  • Demonstrates, develops, and supports staff in valid student assessments and in the use of student data to inform planning and teaching.
  • Stays abreast of current educational trends in curriculum and instruction and informs district and school-level staff of current research and recommendations.
  • Participates in professional growth opportunities to continue to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Lead school-based staff in the development and implementation of learning strategies to improve understanding of district priorities.
  • Utilize relevant data resources to conduct discussions and provide support for teachers and staff.
  • Exhibits a commitment to professional ethics and the school’s mission, participates in professional growth opportunities to support student learning, and contributes to the profession.
  • Communicates effectively with district and school personnel, as well as other stakeholders, in ways that enhance student learning.
  • Assist with the preparation and facilitation of data analysis.
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Must possess a valid Georgia Teacher’s Certificate; must possess, or be eligible for, professional leadership certification and ESOL Endorsement in the State of Georgia
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, demonstrate success as an educational leader and teacher, and have a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Experience:

  • At least five years of experience in elementary and/or secondary K–12 education 
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as speaking and presentation skills

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, including being able to speak effectively to small and large groups of people, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to articulate the vision and mission for the district and provide appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them.

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Salary : $50,000 - $100,000
