Job Description
Title: School-based Mental Health Clinician
Qualifications:
-A masters degree in mental health counseling or social work
- Have one of the following active NC clinical license or working toward licensure
o Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
o Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor-Associate (LCMHC-A)
o Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
o Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSW-A)
- Require two years of clinical mental health experience
- Prefer experience working in the public school setting
- Background in working with at-risk, adjudicated and mentally ill youth
- Comprehensive knowledge of service delivery systems within the mental health system
including, but not limited to, knowledge regarding entrance and discharge criteria for mental
health services available in the Partners’ catchment area
- Understanding of and practice system of care principles
- Excellent interagency collaboration and coordination skills
Reports to: Project ACTIVATE Coordinator and Director of Exceptional Children
Evaluation Procedures: Evaluated according to the North Carolina evaluation system
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist school staff in providing supports for students in crisis situations and conduct suicidal
and threat assessments for the school district
- Make referrals to appropriate professionals, outside agencies and specialized services
following district protocols
- Conduct school-based individual and group Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
supplemental and intensive interventions
- Maintain student files according to district protocol following legal confidentiality guidelines
- Communicate with school staff regarding student’s progress with supplemental and intensive
interventions preferably on a weekly basis, but a minimum of once per month.
- Provide professional learning opportunities for school and district staff to maintain current
awareness of mental health methodologies and issues such as: Community Resiliency Model
(CRM), Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA), Teen Mental Health First Aid (TYMHFA), and
Question, Persuade and Respond (QPR), etc. School-based Mental Health Clinician will
complete and maintain instructor certification as assigned.
- Attend MTSS Meetings when determining behavior/emotional treatment and support needed
and assist teams in connecting students to appropriate services and interventions.
