ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Collaborates with the Director of Instruction and Assistant Superintendent of Instruction to support the strategic vision for curriculum development across the division, with a focus on personalized learning, academic equity, and instructional coherence.

Supports and advocates for content-area and special-focus academic programs that are comprehensive, research-based, and driven by data to promote high levels of student achievement.

Coordinates and supports teaching and learning experiences across schools by ensuring alignment among curriculum documents, assessments, and instructional resources in collaboration with curriculum coordinators and content offices.

Assists in overseeing the curriculum review and revision cycle, ensuring successful completion of each phase—including curriculum framework development, formative and summative assessment design, resource selection, creation of parent-facing documents, website alignment, and report card updates.

Ensures curricula are academically rigorous, aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs), and in compliance with Standards of Quality (SOQs), Standards of Accreditation (SOAs), and other applicable federal and state mandates.

Identifies and recommends solutions to address discrepancies between written curriculum and classroom instruction; supports instructional leaders and teachers in bridging gaps to improve student learning outcomes.

Provides or coordinates professional learning for curriculum coordinators, instructional staff, and other stakeholders; ensures professional learning offerings meet instructional goals and support effective implementation of curriculum and federal programs.

Oversight of federally funded instructional programs (e.g., Title I, II, III, IV), including compliance, reporting, resource alignment, and program evaluation.

Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information, including data related to program performance, personnel, and legally protected student and staff information.

Recommends and implements initiatives to improve coordination, productivity, and effectiveness within the Office of Instruction; addresses challenges requiring a strong working knowledge of curriculum and instructional leadership.

Stays informed of current educational research, instructional strategies, culturally responsive practices, and state and federal standards (including SOLs, SOQs, and SOAs); applies this knowledge to inform continuous improvement efforts.

Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for and promote the division’s instructional priorities. Represents the instructional team in meetings with the School Board, advisory committees, school administrators, PTAs, and community partners.

Collaborates with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and neighboring school districts to support instructional alignment and program development.

Provides instructional insights and support to school-based leaders and staff; when requested, observes instruction and offers feedback to enhance teaching and learning.

Mentors aspiring administrators and instructional leaders in curriculum, assessment, federal program implementation, and data-informed decision-making for continuous improvement.

Supports organizational change and works collaboratively with other division leaders to promote systemic improvement and innovation across the instructional domain.

Performs related duties as assigned or initiated, in support of the Director of Instruction and the district’s instructional goals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certified by the State Department of Education with endorsement in Administration/Supervision.

Hold a valid Virginia driver's license.

Five years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level(s).

School site administration experience at the appropriate level(s).

Demonstrated leadership skills and organizational skills.

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

Ability to relate well to all members of the educational community.

Physical and emotional stamina.

Curriculum and instructional training desirable.
Administrative pay scale, 260 days per year
