Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) of Bend, Oregon, the largest pediatric practice in the region, is hiring a full-time Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist.
At COPA, the HIM Specialist plays an integral role serving patients at our friendly and welcoming medical clinic for children of all ages. The HIM Specialist position is responsible for obtaining and ensuring requirements are met and documents are available for all patients in compliance with regulatory and agency requirements. HIM develops relationships and maintains communication with physician offices using excellent customer service skills to promote successful document retrieval. As part of the Business Operations team, HIM supplies clinical expertise, support, and oversight that helps ensure our patients receive exceptional care.
The role of the HIM Specialist will include but is not limited to the following duties:
Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with COPA policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:
- Maintains knowledge of and compliance with all regulatory and agency requirements regarding all medical data.
- Maintains the highest standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and security with all medical data.
- Responsible for the quality, integrity, and protection of patients’ health information, which can include medical history and physical exams, lab results, clinical information, correspondence, X-rays, and other radiology procedures.
- Accurately capture healthcare information, storing that information, and easily accessing it electronically
- Connects clinical, operational, and administrative functions including My Health.
- Collect and analyze patient data, ensuring accuracy of patient records, ensuring privacy of patient records, managing, and maintaining databases, and generating and analyzing reports.
- Acquire, analyze, and protect digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care.
- Ensure a patient’s health information and records are complete, accurate, and protected.
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- HIM or RHIT Certification desired.
Experience:
- Medical Terminology: Preferred
- Experience with secure document transmission, retrieval, maintenance, and HIM
- Excellent computer skills using Excel, Word, Email, Outlook, and other office software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer Service Experience: Minimum 1 year.
- Office Experience: Minimum 1 year.
- Electronic Health Records: Epic experience preferred.
- Adhere to HIPAA and PHI compliance.
Physical Requirements:
- Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology. Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasions up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Working Conditions:
- Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
- The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors.
- Travel between COPA clinics, business office and community partners as required.
