Director of Fund Development

The Job
The Director of Fund Development is an experienced development professional who reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Executive and the board to advance our mission by ensuring our financial resources. The Director is responsible for managing the annual membership campaign, the endowment campaign, and works with other teams to advance revenue opportunities. As a senior leader in the organization, the Director of Fund Development serves in a management role with significant decision-making authority and may provide leadership and mentorship to others in the organization.
Responsibilities
Endowment
Implement the endowment campaign with support and direction from the board and the Executive Director and provide leadership and insight for the campaign. May engage or work with consultants as needed.
- Build and maintain donor relationships
- Manage own portfolio of calls and contacts as well as working with others doing solicitation
- Conduct donor research
- Develop cultivation strategies for multiple categories of donors
- Coach, train and prepare solicitors for calls on donors
- Track contacts, solicitations and results; issue reports showing progress and results
- Manage the campaign budget
- Plan and implement donor cultivation and recognition events
- Create a strategy for engaging and connecting current and future donors who have made a bequest to CRC as part of their will or trust
Annual Financial Campaign
Manage all aspects of Annual Financial Commitment (AFC) campaign (the annual process of renewing memberships in the organization) including:
- Analyze and recommend strategies for annual increases (to keep pace with inflation)
- Plan the process each year
- Maintain connections with members throughout the year
- Ensure that calls to members are made and payments are received
- Maintain accurate data in Salesforce
- Engage and manage any outsourced resources hired for this effort
- Acknowledge all gifts received
Other
- Maintain focus on high touch relationships
- Be the primary administrator for all fund development activities
- Supervise the Membership Coordinator (new member recruitment and engagement) and possibly the Director of Communications and Marketing to ensure consistent messaging throughout the organization
- Provide guidance and support to any other fundraising efforts
- Provide insight and leadership within the organization
- Work closely with all CRC teams and any other fund development staff and any outsourced resources
- Manage all donor acknowledgement (letters, emails, other engagement)
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements and Skills
- Minimum 5 years’ nonprofit work experience with a minimum of 3 years in fund development that includes exposure to major gifts, bequests, and membership campaigns
- Must be proficient in Salesforce or donor software such as DonorPerfect, Raiser’s Edge, etc.
- Organized and efficient, able to manage multiple projects at once
- Must be an experienced people manager (minimum 2 years of significant experience)
- Experience organizing donor cultivation or recognition events
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; able to clearly articulate the need and purpose of the Annual Financial Commitment and other fundraising activities
- Ability to work with multiple constituencies including board members, executives, congregants, rabbis, and staff members
- Must be collaborative and able to think strategically and perform tactically
- Must be a proficient user of Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Has empathy for those with limited financial resources
- Able to analyze data from previous financial campaigns; able to gather data to share with volunteer leadership
- Keeps all information strictly confidential both internally and externally
- Thrives on making calls to potential donors and does so with compassion and understanding
- Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions preferred
