Special Education Due Process Hearing Officer
The Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit is seeking a full-time impartial Special Education Due Process Hearing Officer under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA).
Candidates must have primary residence in Pennsylvania and be able to drive to various locations throughout the state.
About the Role
This position operates out of the candidate's home office with administrative support from the Office for Dispute Resolution. The successful candidate will:
- Have a degree from an accredited college or university; an advanced degree is preferred;
- Maintain current licensure with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania if an attorney;
- Have at least five years' experience as a hearing officer, or equivalent experience applicable to the position;
- Be knowledgeable about special education and special education law;
- Understand provisions of IDEA, federal and state regulations pertaining to IDEA, and legal interpretations by state and federal courts;
- Conduct hearings and render decisions based on the record developed during those hearings;
- Communicate effectively with litigants and ODR via email, conduct research, and prepare decisions electronically;
- Demonstrate excellent communication and management skills.
Requirements
This is a full-time position, with supplemental employment in education or related fields prohibited. Adept use of virtual meeting platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams is also required.
