What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Hearing Officer Position position at Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit?
Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Special Education Due Process Hearing Officer under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA). As a hearing officer, you will operate independently from home, making decisions in accordance with standard legal practice.
The ideal candidate must have primary residence in Pennsylvania and be able to drive to various locations throughout the state. You will need excellent communication and management skills to maintain and control numerous cases simultaneously.
The position requires a degree from an accredited college or university, with an advanced degree preferred. A law degree is also preferred but not required. Attorney hearing officers must maintain current licensure with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
You will conduct hearings, render decisions based on the record developed during those hearings, and possess knowledge of special education and special education law. The ability to interpret, analyze, and problem-solve, as well as work with a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds, is essential.
This is a full-time position with supplemental employment prohibited in areas of education, special education, or related fields. Adept use of virtual meeting platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams is necessary.
