POSITION: Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Resource Development Director
Employee Status: Full Time, non-exempt
Compensation: $38,000 to $44,000 annual salary depending upon experience.
Position Summary:
The Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting Central Valley Habitat for Humanity's mission by fostering relationships within the community, coordinating volunteer activities, and enhancing public awareness. This position involves organizing outreach efforts, managing volunteer programs, and serving as a bridge between the organization and its supporters.
Background: Founded in 1988, Central Valley Habitat for Humanity is a vibrant, robust medium size affiliate providing affordable homes to qualified families in Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County, VA. Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technology, Nonprofit Management, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in volunteer management, community outreach, or nonprofit work preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- High technical capacity to learn and work with many software suites including volunteer management software (CRM).
- Proficiency with online programs and social media to communicate and track information.
- Workday requirements are 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday with occasional flexible hours including weekends and evenings, as needed for special events.

Key Responsibilities:
Community Outreach:
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage individuals, community groups, businesses, and faith-based organizations.
- Represent Central Valley Habitat for Humanity at community events, meetings, and public forums professionally and warmly.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local stakeholders to support Habitat’s programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Resource Development Director to identify potential donors or supporters through outreach efforts.
Volunteer Coordination:
- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for construction projects, Critical Home Repair and ReStore, events, and other organizational activities.
- Maintain a database of active volunteers and track hours and contributions.
- Provide orientation and training to ensure a safe and positive experience for all volunteers.
- Recognize based on hours volunteered and celebrate volunteer contributions through events, newsletters, or awards.
Program Development and Support:
- Assist in planning and executing special events, including fundraising and recognition events.
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure alignment of outreach and volunteer activities with organizational goals.
- Create and distribute promotional materials related to outreach and volunteer opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and safety standards during volunteer activities.
- Write & design engagement letters, thank-you letters, newsletters, and financial receipts.
Communication and Reporting:
- Develop reports on volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and outreach outcomes for the Resource Development Director.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers and community partners through phone calls, email, newsletters, and social media.
- Respond promptly to inquiries about volunteer opportunities and community partnerships.
- Train volunteers on the hour tracking to account for volunteer hours accurately.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based with frequent visits to construction sites, community events, ReStore location and partner meetings.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Reliable transportation is required for travel within the service area of Rockingham County.

Employment Eligibility:
