CVEC is looking for a Substation Control Technician responsible for the installation, operation, testing and maintenance of all electronic components used in power delivery, monitoring and control.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :
Install, program, test, troubleshoot, calibrate, operate and maintain advanced electronic equipment including protective relays, recloser controls, voltage regulator controls, RTUs, metering, battery chargers, and other electronic substation devices.
Plan, install and test power, controls, and communications circuits for substation equipment in accordance with drawings and schematics. Circuit types may include AC and DC power / controls, fiber and copper communications cables.
Develop equipment communication maps using DNP protocol for device-to-device and device-to-master communications.
Use a variety of tools and test equipment in commissioning and maintenance, including volt meter, ammeter, turns ratio tester, current injection equipment, etc.
Inspect substation equipment to identify defects and other failures.
Create and revise interconnection drawings and diagrams for new substation equipment additions and modifications.
Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, materials, and vehicle in safe operating condition. Maintain adequate stock of parts and materials in vehicle.
Read and interpret system maps, drawings, and technical data.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in the electrical or electronics technology, and five years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with an electric utility or similar business is preferred.
Troubleshooting experience in electronics, instrumentation, and controls
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of electronic wiring, grounding and AC and DC control circuits.
Knowledge of OSHA electrical safety standards and lockout / tagout procedures.
Proficient in the use of laptop computers using Microsoft operating systems and office software.
Ability to use technical software to program and test electronic relays, meters, and controls.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, diagrams, and related technical material.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment on complex electronic systems.
Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public.
Ability to work overtime hours as needed.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
