Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing safety protocols and ensuring that all construction activities meet the required quality standards on a federal construction project. The role involves implementing safety programs, conducting inspections and ensuring that all construction activities adhere to federal, state and local laws and guidelines. The Safety/Quality Control Officer also ensures that the work meets the project specifications, standards and requirements as outlined in the contract documents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Promote, assist, and participate in safety meetings, inspections, audits and reporting to reinforce the importance of health and safety on the work site.
- Provide necessary training either personally or with assistance for company personnel.
- Research and implement new safety processes as necessary.
- Ensure the completion of pre-task plans are completed.
- Work with supervisors to help analyze work requirements (for personnel, equipment and materials) and working conditions to develop, propose and/or implement changes to increase safety and enhance training while still maintaining efficiency and effectiveness.
- Coordinate and confer with supervisors and other management personnel to implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with Company policy, customer requirements and regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation, State Worker's Comp, OSHA, EPA, MSHA and other various state, local and federal agencies.
- Ensure emergency response equipment is installed, as required, and all personnel have been trained in the proper use of such equipment.
- Ensure provision of all personal protective equipment (PPE) and devices as required to safely undertake the required work activities, and ensure constant proper use.
- Perform frequent checks on serviceability of all PPE and tools/equipment.
- Maintain accident statistics and records, including on-job-injury incidents and vehicular accidents.
- Participate in the investigation of injury accidents. Work proactively with supervisors, Human Resources and worker's compensation carriers to ensure injured employees are communicated with and returned to work as quickly as possible, utilizing light duty when possible.
- Ensure that any citations are responded to timely and departmental managers take corrective safety measures.
- Complete OSHA/WISHA reporting as necessary
- Develop spill contingency plans and provide training to Company personnel for all products used by Company including hazardous materials and associated MSDS requirements
- Maintain and ensure compliance with employee certifications
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Certified Safety Professional preferred
- OSHA 30 required.
- 5 years in safety (construction or general)
- Proven ability to train, influence and positively motivate team members.
- Ability to work with a diverse organization of employees.
- Travel to job-site required along with a flexible schedule
