Program Description:
We are seeking a highly qualified Radar Engineer to support the National Weather Service (NWS) Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC) in Norman, Oklahoma. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in radar systems engineering, specifically in pulse Doppler radar, radar meteorology, RF propagation, signal processing, and communications theory. This role involves analyzing, testing, and optimizing radar system performance, developing engineering prototypes, and contributing to large-scale product improvement programs.
This position is based in Norman, Oklahoma, supporting the NWS NEXRAD Radar Operations Center. Candidates must be capable of working onsite and collaborating with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
· Analyze and test radar system performance, including troubleshooting and optimization.
· Develop engineering studies, prototypes, and technical documentation to support system enhancements.
· Conduct feasibility analyses, cost/benefit studies, and alternatives analyses for radar modifications and improvement programs.
· Design, prototype, and test radar system components and subsystems.
· Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve performance challenges and implement effective solutions.
· Prepare and present technical reports, studies, and briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
· Stay updated on advancements in radar technology and industry best practices to drive innovation.
Job Requirements:
Education:
· Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering is desired.
· Degrees in other technical disciplines may be considered based on qualifications and experience.
Experience:
· At least three years of experience in providing electronics engineering services is preferred.
· Specialized advanced degrees may substitute for some experience requirements.
· Desired experience includes:
· Pulse Doppler radar, radar meteorology, RF propagation, signal processing, and communications theory.
· Analyzing and testing electronic system performance.
· Developing engineering prototypes, studies, and technical documentation.
· Performing feasibility, cost/benefit, and alternatives analyses for product improvement programs.
· Familiarity with radar systems and equipment is highly desirable.
