Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled, strategic, and results-driven Business Operations Manager with extensive forestry experience to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of our growing business. This leadership role is pivotal to the future of our company, requiring strong decision-making skills, effective communication across all levels of the organization, and a proactive approach to bidding on new project opportunities.
The ideal candidate will be a confident leader with a demonstrated ability to inspire teams, make sound operational and financial decisions, and position the company competitively in the market through successful project proposals and bids. You will be responsible for fostering operational excellence, ensuring compliance, and contributing directly to our growth and long-term success.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership, Communication, and Strategic Decision-Making:
- Serve as a primary leader across the company, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and performance.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with executive leadership, team members, partners, and clients to ensure alignment and mutual understanding of goals, progress, and outcomes.
- Exercise sound judgment and strategic decision-making across all areas of the business, from personnel management to financial investments and operational improvements.
- Guide teams through change, growth, and challenges with confidence and clarity, maintaining a focus on solutions and results.
Business Operations Management:
· Oversee and optimize the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring all processes are running efficiently and effectively.
· Implement and refine operational strategies to improve productivity and business performance.
· Ensure alignment of business operations with company goals and objectives.
Financial Management and Decision-Making:
· Lead the financial planning and budgeting processes, including forecasting, cost management, and identifying areas for financial improvement.
· Evaluate and make recommendations regarding financial decisions, ensuring profitability and sustainability.
· Monitor and manage the financial performance of the business and provide regular reports to senior leadership.
Contract Management and Bidding:
· Lead the bidding process for new project work, including opportunity identification, scope assessment, proposal development, pricing strategy, and compliance review.
· Manage the bidding process for contracts, including evaluating project requirements, preparing proposals, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
· Oversee the submission of bids for government contracts, SCA, and other industry-specific projects.
· Actively pursue and evaluate bidding opportunities in both public and private sectors, ensuring CTL Forestry is well-positioned for new contract awards.
· Ensure all contracts are managed within scope, on time, and within budget.
People Operations:
· Lead and manage both field and office personnel to ensure effective team collaboration, performance, and employee engagement.
· Develop and implement in partnership with human resources strategies for recruitment, training, retention, and performance management.
· Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety standards, and other relevant regulations in the field and business operations.
Government and Regulatory Compliance:
· Ensure all operations, including bidding and execution of government contracts, comply with the Service Contract Act (SCA) and other applicable regulations.
· Maintain an up-to-date understanding of changes in regulations and ensure all business activities are compliant with industry standards.
Business Development and Growth:
· Drive business development efforts, identifying new opportunities for growth in both public and private sectors.
· Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and government agencies.
· Continuously analyze industry trends and competitive landscape to identify areas for expansion and innovation.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Forestry Management, or related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in business operations management within the forestry industry.
· Proven experience in bidding and managing government contracts, including SCA compliance.
· Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost analysis, and financial decision-making.
· Demonstrated success in leading and managing people in both office and field settings.
· Track record of successful business development, contract acquisition, and growth in a competitive market.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Travel: 25-50%
Working Conditions:
- Work Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional travel for audits, meetings, and site visits. Moderate noise typical of an office setting such as computers, printers, phone, and light customer traffic. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
