Operations Manager
Reports to: President & VP of Operations
Essential Functions:
· Responsible for generating revenue and profit growth by filling empty miles and increasing the utilization of Certified Express, Inc. Fleet
· Manage driver scheduling (example: home time, shop maintenance, DOT testing) and load dispatching working in collaboration with all Operations staff
· Execute load moves working between shippers and operations. Make educated decisions using analytical strategies
· Responsible for entering loads in McLeod software and communicate with operations during extended coverage time
· Proactive daily management and coordination of freight and office staff
· Negotiate freight rates and book loads with carriers
· Maintain McLeod software
· Coordinate with other departments
· Communicate with carriers and shippers to effectively deliver freight
· Maintain carrier packets and insurance
· Customer Service Representative for Protein Solutions/3D, Simmons, Greenleaf Nurseries, Texas Egg, and Allison Sales
· Assist in interviews for potential employees
· Responsible for training and developing employees
· Assist Claims- on outside carriers (if it is on an asset truck then our safety dept handles it)
· Communicate effectively with all customers (internal and external)
· Requesting detention incurred daily for reimbursement
· Reporting Lumper charges daily for reimbursement
· All other tasks as assigned
Job Requirements:
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
· Tanker and Refer experience preferred
· McLeod experience is a plus
· Ability to understand all the details of how a transportation business works
· Must be thorough and have great organization skills
· Ability to work under pressure
· Ability to handle multi-functions
· Knowledge of office functions
· Ability to work proficiently and efficiently in a timely manner
· Highly detail oriented
Work Environment: Operations Manager duties operate in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands: Operations Manager duties require the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. It may also require walking primarily on a level surface for certain periods of time, as well as reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime and weekends may be necessary. On call rotation (Nights and Weekends) every few weeks.
Required Education: High school diploma or GED diploma, at least five years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
