Description
The PLC Controls Specialist will handle PLC and HMI programming of motion controls and assembly of industrial control panels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reading/creating wiring diagrams
- PLC and HMI programming
- Assembling control panels
- Wiring control panels per wiring diagrams
- On-Site start-up assistance
- Assist in the fabrication and assembly of all projects

Requirements
COMPETENCIES:
- A 2-year technical degree or 5 years of similar experience.
- Experience with PLC and HMI programming, Rockwell / Allen Bradley PLC’s and HMI’s highly sought but not critical
- A high mechanical aptitude
- Servo Motion
- Experience with motor controls and Variable Frequency Drives
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar programs
- Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Experience in a Manufacturing environment
- Able to interact with customers and outside salesmen intelligently and courteously on the phone and in person
- Ability to troubleshoot problems with equipment (ours and other companies) promptly over the phone and in person
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and manuals
- Ability to design and build a control panel as well as modify existing controls to customer’s request
- Ability to work with a team or manage your project with little supervision
- Be willing to work on all phases of a project from the initial contact with the customer through the design, build, and start-up at the customer’s location
- Be willing to travel for start-ups and with Skarda salesmen on prospecting trips
- Be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Willingness to learn and accept constructive criticism
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Frequently required to stand at a workstation for a long period.
- Ability to lift 70 lbs. when required.
- Ability to speak to and hear employees/clients via phone or in person.
- Body motor skills are sufficient to enable the incumbent to move around a shop environment.
- Use chemicals with PPE, adhesives, solvents, lubricants, epoxies, paints, and inks as required.
- Additional Mental Requirements: compare, decide, problem solve, analyze, and interpret.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Working Hours/Environment
- Work hours average 40 per week; may require additional hours including evenings and weekends depending on business needs.
- Standard work hours for the service department are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am-5:00 pm.
- Work is typically performed in an indoor shop environment.
Tools and Equipment Used
- Basic hand tools include but are not limited to allan wrenches, adjustable wrenches, box end wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, sockets, and ratchet wrenches.
- Power and pneumatic tools including but not limited to angle grinders, die grinders, air drills, air chisels, Impact wrenches, torque multipliers, torches, band saws, electric drills, circular saws, cranes, and forklifts.
- Various diagnostic equipment, test stands, and test fixtures.
Travel
- Minimal – up to 15% of the time.
