In your role as Prep Cook, you will prepare food to be served, comply with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards, and follow established food production procedures. Ensure food quality and timely delivery. Gather necessary ingredients. Set-up buffets and plate meals.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Directly prepare food to be cooked and served using established production procedures.
· Operate in a safe and efficient fashion some or all the following equipment: Ranges, ovens, fryers, grills, griddles, food processors, slicers, mixers, outdoor cooking equipment, sinks, food warmers, storage & transport carts, exhaust hoods, and vacuum packaging machines.
· Label prepared food items, color-code and check-off production sheets.
· Store food properly and safely, marking date and item.
· Correctly prepare all food served following standard recipes.
· Portion food for serving for catering jobs.
· Keep work area neat and clean; clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation.
· Complete food temperature checks before service.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED / HSED) preferred.
- Completion of a vocational culinary program, Associate degree in culinary arts, culinary science or a specialized culinary training program would be a plus.
- Superior knife skills.
- Keen understanding of industry-standard best cooking and preparation practices.
- Familiarity with safe and sanitary food handling and preparation.
- Certified in proper food handling, typically through a ServSafe Certification, preferred but not required.
- Good math skills with a clear understanding of cooking measurements.
- Strong sense of smell and taste.
- Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Standing and walking for the duration of the shift.
- Able to lift and carry and lift 50 pounds occasionally.
- Black Ceruti’s shirt or blouse and chef’s coat (provided).
- Black pants & black non-slip shoes.
- Hair Restraint if applicable.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- $17.00 to $18.00 per hour starting pay, depending on experience.
- Review at 60 days with $1 per hour increase potential.
