The Role
As a vital member of our Program Analytics and Technology team, this role is essential for the successful execution of our projects. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Controller with experience in financial reporting and project control systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing project cost baselines, along with maintaining and analyzing project financial data. This role is critical to the successful execution of our projects, and the ideal candidate will collaborate closely with owners, project managers, engineers, construction managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate financial oversight and tracking throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires strong analytical skills, financial expertise, and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Project Manager to prepare expenditure forecasts, including a likely statement of expenditure range based on known project risks; forecasts to include tracking of purchase orders, purchase requisitions, and planned work.
- Develop monthly project controls meetings for assigned projects.
- Track project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and issues and facilitate communication of updates from project team for management and funding departments.
- Facilitate project budget set-up and budget transfers.
- Support accounting re-classes to ensure charges to assigned projects are correct and aligned with the project plan.
- Facilitate monthly project cost accruals and reconcile invoices.
- Provide support for cost certifications by project and program managers.
- Provide other miscellaneous financial program support, as required, for assigned portfolio; and
- Prepare invoices and supplementary reports for cost reimbursable projects.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of project financial and portfolio management experience; or in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma Eight (8) years of project financial and portfolio management experience.
- Proven experience in developing budgets and managing costs for large-scale projects
- Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope, time, cost, and risk management.
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) and AACE cost control methodologies.
Technical Skills:
- Power BI: Proficiency in Power BI and basic knowledge of how to create dashboards in Power BI Desktop using DAX for project financial data analysis and reporting.
- Must be highly proficient in Excel, Teams, and SharePoint and have experience developing reports from financial and project systems.
Soft Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Perform additional project controls related duties as required.
Preferred Certifications
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.
- AACE CCP (Certified Cost Professional) a plus
Work Environment:
This position may involve both office-based work and site visits to project locations, requiring occasional travel to oversee project progress and resolve on-site issues.
