Structures Inspector

We are hiring a Structures Inspector for our Civil Engineering practice in Maryland.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Regional Director as a Structures Inspector you will play a pivotal role in performing construction inspections on bridges, culverts, walls, and other structures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• To perform construction inspection services for repairs to fixed and movable bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other structures.
• The ability to climb structures when necessary with appropriate safety measures is required.
• Each individual shall also have a current Temporary Traffic Control Manager’s Training Course card prior to work assignment.
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation to concrete, steel, and timber piers, pier caps, and abutments;
• Inspection of jacking beams under traffic and restoring bearings on piers and abutments; and,
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation or replacement of deteriorated, damaged or cracked beams, girders, heat straightening and other structural steel including cleaning and painting of replaced areas;
• Inspection of constructing sheet pile and concrete end walls and wing walls;
• Inspection of underpinning footings to piers and abutments;
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation to damaged steel and concrete stringers;
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation to timber bridge components including timber pile jacking and splicing;
• Inspection of riprap and grout filled bag scour protection placement;
• Inspection of cleaning pipes and installing concrete pipe inverts;
• Inspection of removal and replacement of various structures such as pipes, culverts and bridges;
• Inspection of maintenance of traffic required for repairs;
• Inspection of wrapping pier columns with fiber reinforced polymer protective system;
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation to movable bridge mechanical and hydraulic machinery systems
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation to movable bridge electrical systems;
• Inspection of preservation and minor rehabilitation to movable bridge structural systems;
• Inspection of cleaning and painting bridges (which may include lead paint removal)
• and all other engineering professional work related to Construction Inspection of Fixed and Movable Bridges, Culverts, Retaining Walls, and Other Structures.

Education, Certifications, and Experience

• High school or equivalent. Civil Engineering degree can be used to supplement years of required experience.
• Three or more years of experience in the construction of, or inspection of, fixed and movable bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other structures
• Knowledge of MD SHA and or AASHTO/ASTM standards
• Experience using iPad and laptop for documentation and submission of field reports
• Familiarity and experience with Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of eMCMS ideal, but not required
• Must pass drug/alcohol screening and background check
• Initial assignment will be in Southern/Eastern MD area (mileage reimbursement provided)
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and have reliable transportation.
• The ability to climb structures when necessary with appropriate safety measures provided by firm is required.
• Must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions and communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written communications.

Position Levels and Salary Ranges:

The ideal candidate will have any of the following:

• TET III: 3 to 4 years of relevant experience: $47,536 to 75,820/year. Paid hourly, plus overtime, mileage, and full benefits
• TET IV: 5 to 6 years of relevant experience: $53,808 to 86,322. Paid hourly, plus overtime, mileage, and full benefits
• TET V: 8 or more years of relevant experience: $57,275 to 92,108. Paid hourly, plus overtime, mileage, and full benefits
