Import Agent Role
We are seeking a skilled Import Agent to join our team. As an Import Agent, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth importation of goods into the US.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process incoming shipments, including freight, documentation, and waybilling.
- Assess charges and collect fees for shipments.
- Open files on the dedicated software system for each shipment received.
- Respond to customer inquiries by phone, email, or fax.
- Negotiate with customers to resolve issues and arrive at mutually beneficial agreements.
- Examine invoices and shipping manifests for compliance with tariff and customs regulations.
- Contact customs officials to facilitate the release of incoming freight and resolve customs delays.
- Prepare freight bills, accept payments, and issue refunds.
- Notify consignees of delays in shipment delivery.
- Provide proof of delivery (POD) to shippers upon request.
- Analyze documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements to verify weight and volume conversions.
- Convert foreign currency to US dollars or domestic currency to foreign currency.
- Calculate duties and tariffs owed on imported goods.
- Communicate with international companies.
Requirements
- 6 months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
