The Loan Officer works collaboratively within a team concept consisting of a Credit Administrator and other lenders and staff to efficiently deliver credit solutions to our members. The Loan Officer supports the commercial lending team by providing credit analysis, underwriting, and presentation of loan requests, conducting industry research, and providing thorough information to support the credit decision.
Essential Functions
· Accurately evaluates tax returns and financial statements and analyzes loan specifics and risk factors. Mitigates risk factors.
· Works with delinquent borrowers to ensure the best outcome for lender and borrower.
· In coordination with the Credit Administrator, determines appropriate loan structure and completes quality credit write-ups identifying risks, policy exceptions, and mitigating factors to make sound credit decisions when approving or declining credits.
· Manages the loan through the loan approval process communicating closely with the team and the client.
· Ensures credit reviews, maturing loans, and past dues are handled according to policy and in a manner that minimizes risk of loss.
· Maintains loan status reports.
· Participates in meetings and direct conversations with borrowers.
· Mentors and trains support personnel.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
· Bachelors in business, finance, or accounting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
· Ten years of experience in a commercial credit or lending function.
· Five years of commercial credit analysis experience.
· In depth understanding of the risk management process and responsibilities.
· Strong credit analysis skills including experience in preparing written credit requests.
· Knowledge of Alaska’s commercial fishing industry of Alaska is a plus.
· Knowledge and full understanding of bank loan policies.
· Knowledge of all aspects of documentation relating to commercial loans.
· Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to commercial loans and bank policy.
· Excellent financial analytical abilities.
· Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening).
· Proven ability to work effectively with clients.
· Detail-oriented and well-organized.
· Ability to handle multiple priorities and produce results.
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Ability to handle frequent change.
· Creative/innovative problem solver.
· High level of integrity.
· Self-motivated/takes initiative.
· Ability to effectively utilize computer technology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs such as email, Word, Excel, Outlook calendar, etc.
· Experience in collections and/or special credits is a plus.
Physical/Mental Requirements
· Position frequently involves hearing, speaking, typing, standing, walking, and repetitive hand/wrist motions.
· Close vision used extensively and long-distance vision required occasionally.
· Valid driver’s license required.
· Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and to effectively communicate with clients.
· Occasional travel required to client locations and to attend community events; required travel may be to remote areas of Alaska (Kodiak, Petersburg, Dillingham, etc.)
· Ability to discern information and formulate appropriate action.
· Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
