CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1 – Facility Disposition Project at the West Valley Demonstration Project. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York.  In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, CHBWV continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

The Internship Program is an 8–10-week program with a 4-day workweek (10 hours per day).

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION

The internship program is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience, develop practical skills, enhance knowledge, and make meaningful contributions to projects.  Intern assignments will be determined based on business need and role availability with consideration to skills and development goals. 

The Procurement Intern will gain knowledge and experience of Department of Energy acquisition requirements, assist with contract transition activities, placement of purchase orders, and develop business and social skills required to obtain a full-time position.

SPECIFIC PROJECTS/RESPONSIBILITES

  1. Award Maintenance Repair and Operating (MRO) purchase orders.
  2. Assist with bid list development.
  3. Assist Procurement personnel with subcontract closeout.
  4. Assist with contract transition activities.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Pursuing a BA/BS in business, accounting, finance, human resources, or other related fields of study 
    • Supply chain, business management, finance preferred
  • Must be at least a rising Junior
  • Microsoft office products experience preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to intern for 10 weeks.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new challenges.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

  1. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
  2. Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
  3. Perform diverse assignments within functional specialty.
  4. Establish schedules to accomplish routine and special tasks.
  5. Collaborate with team members on projects to contribute to the organization’s effectiveness. 
  6. Participate in projects and deliverables as directed by manager.
  7. Support the team in preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
  8. Prepare a Final Presentation for Staff Managers at the end of the internship depicting internship experience and accomplished projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  2. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft suite.
  3. Exhibit professional behavior which promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace.
  4. Ability to effectively manage, organize, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Perform tasks under general supervision for most assignments.
  6. Assist in planning and coordinating project activities to accomplish assigned tasks in a timely manner.
