STEM Intern - Industrial Safety (Summer 2025)

The Industrial Safety Intern will gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of Industrial Hygiene and Safety including the safety program, fire protection, and field tasks.

1. Assist with planning and coordination of Safety Day.
2. Perform a program assessment on an industrial safety program.
3. Work with Certified Industrial Hygienist to review and analyze sample data.
4. Assist safety technicians with sampling and job oversight.

1. Education/Experience:
   • Pursuing a BA/BS in engineering, science, construction management, computer sciences, or other technically related fields of study
     • Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene preferred
   • Must be at least a rising Junior 

2. Preferred Qualifications: 

   • Environmental, Radiological coursework.  
   • Proficient in Microsoft 365

3. Other Requirements:

   • Ability to intern for 10 weeks typically between May and August.
   • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new challenges.
     • Willing to work in a construction/demolition environment. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK

1. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.
2. Adhere to standards contained in the Company “Code of Conduct,” Company EEO practices, and DOE directives.
3. Perform diverse assignments within functional specialty.
4. Establish schedules to accomplish routine and special tasks.
5. Collaborate with team members on projects to contribute to the organization’s effectiveness. 
6. Participate in projects and deliverables as directed by manager.
7. Support the team in preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
8. Prepare a Final Presentation for Staff Managers at the end of the internship depicting internship experience and accomplished projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
2. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft suite.
3. Exhibit professional behavior which promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace.
4. Ability to effectively manage, organize, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
5. Perform tasks under general supervision for most assignments.
6. Assist in planning and coordinating project activities to accomplish assigned tasks in a timely manner.
