Position Description
Under the direction of the Executive Director, Extended Learning & Community Education overseeing the Youth Summer Swim Program.
Responsibilities
Supervise staff and manage the scheduling, training, and oversight, as directed
Develop, implement, and oversee the Youth Summer Swim Program, establish strong relationships with the community and participants
Schedule and coordinate programs and events on campus
Serve as the main contact for parent/family inquiries about the Youth Summer Program
Swim with proficiency and endurance
Supervise and develop all marketing for all Youth Summer Swim Programs
Supervise all required training for the aquatic Youth Summer Swim Program
Effectively enforce pool rules and policies
Assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time
Plans, develops and implements aquatic programs and supervises staff in the implementation of the programs
Prepares content for publication of a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, and related communication promotion aquatic programs and facilities
Responds to public inquiries about summer programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings
Promotes interest and provides information regarding Youth Summer Swim Programs to community organizations, community service groups, and other departments, and the general public
Assures the facility complies with local, state, and federal regulations
Spend time on the pool deck regularly (i.e., fill in for pool attendants, lifeguards)
Supervise and oversee the scheduling of lifeguards and water instructors
Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the phone, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities helping set up for classes, events, etc.
Responds to concerns and complaints with possible solutions in a timely manner
Manage safety training and oversight for the program
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of professional aquatic, teaching, or related work experience
Current lifeguard certification issued by the American Red Cross
Current lifeguard instructor training certificate by the American Red Cross or water safety instructor or swim coach certification from a nationally recognized program
A valid First Aid Certificate or its equivalent issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
A valid certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
A valid certification for Automated External Defibrillator (AED) issued by the American Red Cross
Valid Water Safety Instructor Certificate issued by the American Red Cross
Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment
Knowledge of:
Rules, regulations, and ordinances related to the operation and use of college
swimming pools and swimming pool equipment
Water safety and lifesaving methods including techniques of resuscitation and first aid
Health standards and safety practices for swimming pools
Emergency procedures to obtain rescue services
Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and classified professionals
Familiar with swim strokes or has a background in aquatics
Has experience working on aquatic programs
Maintains active surveillance of the pool area
Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed Ability to
Apply swimming and pool rescue techniques
Enforce applicable rules and regulations and maintain discipline
Remain calm in emergencies, assess situations accurately, and think and act quickly
Remain alert and maintain focus of attention for long periods without being distracted
Administer first aid, including CPR/AED
Work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations for health and safety
Flexible on weekdays, but must be available to work on weekends.

This is a temporary professional expert position. Effective date of employment will be as soon as a successful candidate is selected and a mutually agreed upon date is determined. The hourly rate is $45.00/hour.
Being able and ready to work onsite at a Chaffey facility or location is an essential function of this job. Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job.
