What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Instructor position at Challenge Island of Greater Seattle?
Summer Camp Leaders wanted! Challenge Island of Greater Seattle and the Eastside (CI) is on a mission to balance the overuse of devices and screens amongst children. Our summer camps introduce kids to the sciences and arts in a screen-free setting. Our campers work in teams and solve complex challenges using only their imaginations and commonly found, everyday supplies.
We are hiring Summer Camp Leaders who have worked with kids between the ages of 6 years to 12 years. Counselors must be extremely patient, value trust and empathy, and be highly organized and responsible.
Challenge Island camps...
- are held from mid-June through the end of August
- will be held in various cities (Seattle, Redmond, Kirkland, Edmonds, and Issaquah)
- will be held on weekdays from 9:00am - 12:00pm (there may be some full day camps that go from 9:00am - 3:00pm
- will be either indoors, or outdoors in picnic shelters
- will have a maximum of 20 kids, between the ages of 6 and 12
You belong in our family if you...
- have experience working with children in a classroom setting as a camp counselor or other role
- are passionate about project and play based learning
- have superior classroom management skills
- are college-age or above pursuing a degree in education
Challenge Island will train qualified instructors in our unique program and teaching philosophy. All supplies and detailed lesson plans are provided. Challenge Island teaching positions are highly selective positions but if you do become a part of our team the intrinsic rewards are enormous!
Other requirements:
- Be passionate, patient and deeply care about educating children
- Have reliable transportation
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Reliably commute to several of the following areas: Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Bothell, Sammamish, Issaquah, Renton, Kent, Seattle
- Complete Criminal Background Check and application

Please note:
- We offer summer camps every week in the listed cities
- If hired, you can commit to as many or as few weeks as you want; however you cannot work partial weeks. Once you commit to a week, you are expected to work the whole week.(Monday-Friday)
