General Summary:
Edgeworks Summer Camp strives to build responsible, independent, lifelong climbers. A Summer Camp Instructor’s primary responsibility is to maintain a fun learning environment for youth climbers enrolled in summer camp. They will facilitate the day-to-day of summer camps in the gym, and may also assist Single Pitch Instructors on outdoor climbing days. Summer Camp Instructors report to and collaborate with the Youth Program Manager, and on outdoor days, they also report to and collaborate with the Single Pitch Instructor leading the day trip.
Job Duties:
- Demonstrate an inclusive teaching philosophy focused on building confidence, developing skills, and facilitating growth on and off the walls Implement age-appropriate activities that motivate and engage youth climbers.
- Teach knot-tying, top-rope climbing and belaying, teamwork, and personal responsibility to a variety of ages.
- Facilitate games, team-building exercises, and other non-climbing activities
- For camps with outdoor days, prepare climbers for outdoor cragging in local areas.
Minimum qualifications:
- Experience teaching or working with youth
- Prior gym climbing experience, including top-rope belaying, and ability to acquire top-rope belay certifications
- Excited to work with youth daily
- Comfortable working in a team environment
Desired qualifications
- Experience teaching climbing skills to youth
- Outdoor rock climbing knowledge and experience
- Lead-climbing experience
Employment Status and Compensation:
- Seasonal: June through end of August. Candidates must be available for the duration of the summer camp season
- Part-Time: Monday through Friday, 15-30 hours per week
