JROTC Assistant Instructor
Job Title: Assistant JROTC Instructor
Reports To: Principal / CTE Director
Comp. Schedule: Salary based on MIP
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma and will be required to obtain an Associate Degree within five years after the date of hire from an accredited college or institution recognized by the Department of Education (DOE) or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
2. Certified by the State of Alabama and meet the minimum qualifications required by the Department of the Army.
3. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
4. Must be honorably retired less than three (3) years from the United States Army with a rank of First Sergeant, Master Sergeant or Sergeant First Class.
5. Experience working with youth preferred.
6. Must have earned a Junior ROTC Instructor Certificate.

REPORTS TO: Principal / CTE Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Comply with all regulatory guidelines outlined in Army Regulation 145-2 and Cadet Command Regulation 145-2.
2. Instructs cadets in the JROTC curriculum during the school year.
3. Conducts training at JROTC summer camps.
4. Develops short and long-range plans for achieving curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials, establishes clear objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans.
5. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students.
6. Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the JROTC program.
7. Motivates and encourages students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming a responsible citizen.
8. Monitors student movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
9. Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams and other special activities.
10. Maintains JROTC student records as required by the Department of Army regulations and local policies.
11. Complies with Army and school district safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring, and accompanying cadets.
- Performs administrative and logistical tasks related to JRTOC program management as directed by the Senior Army Instructor
- Maintains technical proficiency in the administrative, logistical, and cadet data components of the Joint Unit Management Reporting System
14. Maintains supply accountability in strict compliance with Army security regulations.
15. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
16. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
17. Attends staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities.
- Maintains fundraising accountability as required by school and District policies
19. Sets an example and models positive attitudes, knowledge, and skills for cadets.
20. Maintains a working knowledge of new instructional methods, technology, and equipment.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

- Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
